TV's Tom Hart previews the All-SEC CWS final in Omaha
Key notes from Tom Hart interview
- We were really in the dark most of the day up in the booth with NC State. We thought at one point they would be without one regular player, then that ballooned to what it was. It was such a wild situation to watch play out from the broadcast booth. The only thing I guess you can have solace in is that the NCAA followed protocols to the letter, and those are in place for a reason.
- I think the biggest issue was the communication from the NCAA. All the way up to an hour before the first pitch, we didn't know If the Wolfpack would be playing, not playing Friday, or even going home from the tournament. That game on Friday goes to show that if you can play, then you play the game. There's nothing else really to it. NC State rolled their lineup out there and competed. It was fun to watch.
- The exposure for college baseball is heavily weighted to the postseason and this final three-game series. If they hadn't have had the final, it would've been extremely detrimental for college baseball. The viewership is only going to grow as this series progresses. The NCAA needs this final to capitalize on the growth of college baseball.
- I don't know who wins tonight; I'm terrible at making predictions. I do know this; Jack Leiter is going to go out there and be Jack Leiter. I wouldn't be surprised to see an 8-inning, 10-strikeout performance from him. The Bulldogs go into this series definitely have their offense humming more than the Commodores. Another thing to watch for State, they don't have to run the ball out of the yard to score runs. They know how to get runners moving and manufacture runs.
- Mississippi State, I think, has the edge overall. Those bullpen arms combined with the offense are gonna be tough to beat.
