Caden Sorrell earns honor of being SEC's Freshman of the Week

For a third straight week, Texas A&M boasts the SEC’s Freshman of the Week.

This time, Gavin Grahovac is passing the torch to his roommate.

On Monday, the Southeastern Conference named Caden Sorrell its top rookie for his performances vs. Houston and then-No. 20 Georgia.

In another 3-1 week for the Aggies, Sorrell was 7-for-13 with two doubles and a triple.

During Tuesday night’s 13-11 victory over Houston, the Flower Mound Marcus product marauded his way to his first-ever four-hit night, finishing a home run shy of the cycle. In that game, he scored twice, drove in another and worked a pair of walks.

In Saturday’s improbable run-rule victory after starting in a 9-0 hole, Sorrell again played a key role in the mind-blowing comeback.

During A&M’s eight-run bottom of the first, Sorrell doubled to score Ali Camarillo and make it 9-5.

With the score tied at 9-9 in the sixth, he laced a two-run single to the opposite field to score Hayden Schott and Ted Burton.

That swing put the Aggies in front for good. It also opened the floodgates during a second eight-run frame as the Maroon & White ran away from the Red & Black.

On the year, Sorrell is hitting .302 with five homer runs and 28 RBIs, but his impact cannot simply be measured in offensive statistics. After all, he took home the top spot on Sportscenter’s Top 10 plays after robbing a home run in Columbia earlier this month.

Since being inserted into the lineup for good vs. Mississippi State on March 23, the Aggies are 18-3 when Sorrell starts in left field.

Additionally, Sorrell also becomes the fifth different Aggie to earn an SEC Weekly honor this year, joining Justin Lamkin, Braden Montgomery, Christopher Cortez and Grahovac (twice).
