Olin's article is very concerning. I sure hope this wasn't written to prepare the fanbase for an epically underwhelming hire. Skip Johnson is not the answer. His record against decent competition is terrible. Got swept at home by Lamar and skull drug twice by UConn in the regional they hosted.

Skip Johnson is a heck of a baseball coach. To base your opinion of his career on one season is a mistake.
Well, Kendall Rodgers didn't mention his name in his discussion of possible candidates. Go read the summary if this confuses you.
Not that he is on the the top of my list but he did beat POS twice in the CWS.
I think Johnson is very good. But he's struggled to get out of the regionals during his time at OU so personally I'd have him lower on your list.cevans_40 said:

Did you read the article? The point was that Oklahoma has trash facilites, baseball is not really supported by the administration, recruiting to Oklahoma isn't a slam dunk, and he has still built a solid program with little tools. What could he accomplish with better facilities, and stronger financial support?
Are you arguing that Schloss would have definitely taken OU to the CWS? That Vitello would have have?
Sometimes, you have to look beyond just the record. I'm not saying Johnson should be the guy, but excluding him based solely on his record against UConn & Lamar would be a mistake imo.

His teams don't score runs. That's a consistent issue. Strong Childress vibes.
He did mention in his interview today, there was one name he would not mention. Could be Skip?
When I heard he might be going to Texas. I thought, that would be a solid hire. He's a good one.
I'd also add that Todd Butler is an Oklahoma alum and has been a HC. If he's the recruiting stud Olin thinks he is then it's very possible he gets the HC gig there and never even comes here.
He's a good coach and whipped pos coach twice. He is not a fan of tu when they overlooked him for the job. Hes a helluva guy not pos turncoat from Maryland. Guy has won everywhere do not think he won't get it done.

Fascinating that when we hired Schloss they wanted Bakich who was at Michigan at the time.

He drug his nutsack over Schloss and came as close to winning a championship as Schloss with way less money and way worse facilities. His players love him. He fights for them. He wouldn't have let the umpiring get away with what Schloss allowed at the CWS.

A&M has a history of overpaying for the shiniest toy on the shelf and later regretting it. Just get the best coach available. If that's Johnson, I'm all for it. Don't worry about the reaction of the message boards

So he is the Mark Stoops of baseball? I laid out his HC record somewhere yesterday against Childress. He is barely above .500 in BDF play

If he comes for $1M, would be a stable hire and have some time to prove he can win with resources. If they give him $3.5M and unlimited staff budget hoping he can win, well that usually is the recipe for failure around here.
