Now, with that said... I get the sense that Earley would like to be HC, or at least a HC soon. Does hiring a youngster like Vaughn help that? Or hurt our ability to keep Earley? I lean toward the latter.

I wish there was a quality, really apparent Mainieri situation. I think Skip with Earley as Ass.HC is a great fit, but at 57 Skip isn't going to want to bounce in 2-3 years.

I'm still leaning Earley with Pierce as pitching coach. ...you know as I piece this all together from 1000 miles away with absolutely 0 inside knowledge. I'm also down with Penny as recruiting coordinator, but beyond that I don't feel a need to try to create some kind of made for TV movie where every Aggie grad comes back to coach the program. If they're the best fit, fine. But let's not do it just for the sake of a future Hallmark movie.

I'm here as well. If Vaughn says no then hire Earley as HC. We need to announce today and have the PC on Monday at noon.

What happened to the thread about the OU coach?
OU source evidently said the deal is done. Since the thread has been removed I would assume that rumor has some possibility.

because he's a really good pitching coach? And I think Earley needs an older coach around who has experience running an entire program. I don't care if it's Pierce, but he's a pitching coach, with HC experience that has taken 3 teams to Omaha. Find anyone that meets those criteria and plug them in.

Young coaches don't need help with the stuff they know. It's the stuff that they never even knew existed that surprise them.

Since the beginning of this debacle, I've always thought Walters from WF was going to be the guy. Just don't know if translates into the SEC.

But this apparently has been topsy turvy and don't know. Think Heefner removed his name, OConnor said no allegedly, think Johnson using it for pay increase, and Vitello is unknown (sure he said no, but they aren't even saying he was contacted).

Earley (sp) now seems plausible as do think the players have a say (final candidate choice will be vetted by them) and he allows Trev to save some dollars. Just wonder does he have enough connections to build a staff that can compete in SEC.

Time will tell.
