Ole Trev told the team he wasn't going to try to get the flashiest guy, but he was going to get the right fit for Aggie baseball.

Unfortunately for our situation, this is the best option at this point. All of the home run hires are pretty happy and stable. In two years when revenue sharing etc kicks in, there will be unhappy guys.

My issue with Byrne is that he seemed to relish confrontation. Also with the way he fired MJ was disgraceful.

I think he did a lot to bring us into the 21st century. Probably did a mostly good job, but his personality...

Hopefully Trev can spout some reality in a stop gap hire, galvanize all this hate into donations and kick off a longer term search for Jarret. Reality will set in for Jarrett by next year that $25K of donations will never satisfy $4M of needs.

Thanks for confirming I hadn't concocted that story in my head. While obviously a horrible way to treat a coach who had dedicated many years to A&M, the weirdest part of that story to me is picturing $Bill in flip-flops. I could picture him in anything from wing-tips to velcro tennis shoes, but flip-flops just seems out of character for him. Maybe he'd just gotten a pedicure.

The relative importance of baseball has been greatly elevated at Texas A&M. Now right behind football.

For the sake of AD's career at Texas A&M he needs to find the money somewhere for a splash hire.

No disrespect to Heefner, but hiring a guy with church school player rules ain't gonna cut it.

This is not true. Baseball is a non-revenue sport. Men's Basketball (and probably women's) is far more important. There's a reason so few of our games are on linear television. The masses don't watch college baseball.

Lots of young Ags rushing to support 'ol $bill on their fainting couches. Let's retreat to the facts. $bill was so highly valued as an AD that he's been sitting on his couch potato couch since leaving TAMU. In other words, the market has unequivocally spoken. He promoted shrinking both Blue Bell (succeeded) and Kyle. Yes, he believed we couldn't fill either. Of course that was because he was content being Dodds' lap dog staying in the Big 12 or worse following whorn to the PAC. $bill was shrewd enough to incentivize his comp with payment for performance in non rev sports that don't actually pay the Title IX bills. Awesome. Meanwhile he shoved Kennedy down our throats in basketball (read austerity) and Childress in baseball. The guy couldn't possibly conceive TAMU as what it is today in the SEC and what it could be.

There are those that view the world, economy, markets, or college athletic programs as zero sum, fixed pie entities. And there are those with vision, leadership, and mindset to grow your way out of your problems. $bill was the former and I hope we don't have 2.0. Sorry bruh.

It's a new era and we have to be more efficient with our money given NIL and potential for a portion of AD revenue to athletes.

He was brought in to trim the fat. I'm not saying he made the right or wrong decisions on baseball, but he's doing what he was hired to do.

I thought in some years baseball got pretty close to finishing in the black and turning a small profit.

I can only hope Trev is as good as Bill Byrne. BCG was hardly a splash hire and he put A&M basketball on the map for the first time in 20 years.
