The idea that Bill Byrne "handicapped our school for years" when in reality he was the first ever professional Athletic Director here and basically brought the entire department out of 1985, is hilarious.

He also is the only one weve had since that time that actually performed the role to its greatest extent of what people expect from it. Weve had ADs since then that didnt even show up to games, and Bill Byrne was posting a weekly blog to fans, which as shown above, also not appreciated.
.

He taught everyone at A&M, fans, leaders, etc, that we can compete in all sports at the highest level. Yeah we didn't get there in football but he's still the best AD we ever had.
He is also the AD that had a list of 3-4 replacement coach candidates for every sport at all times.

Bill Byrne is the best AD this school has ever had and it's not particularly close.

Can we start making caps and shirts that say BAD now?

Trev likely will do fine once the picture gets less foggy. But he is first and foremost a fund raiser. $Bill did great at capital spend and helped build out a durable set of facilities. He wasn't wrong to focus on funding continuing spend with tickets which our fans hated then and now. His methodology of limiting
seating is the only way to durably make prices inelastic. But product in the field is what drives engagement. Football can make more we th a killer program. Baseball MIGHT make more but the spend to get there is difficult to justify.

What we proved with Schloss is the right coach can quickly change the story. Mike might become that coach. But this year isn't telling that story.

I'm not sure now is a good time to further encumber the athletic department with new spending. But maybe Trev can figure something out.
