Not gonna lie, I have no idea why a HC would take a demotion for a rookie HC.

Trouble, I listen to you a lot. Please explain why you like him? He is ( not to be rude) but uninspiring? Best I see on his resume is the stint at LSU. Just asking

For us ignorant peasants...why is this good? Is he a pitching mastermind known for developing pitchers?

When you make 250k and you are staring at massive plane trips east next year, and Ags call offering to double your pay?

The obvious thing in this one if he and Earley have prior experience together. So Earley trusts him and feels he would be a good fit. Nothing wrong with that one.

Not my 1st choice. Dont see any reason this is a particularly good hire. His PC numbers are nothing special. Was really hoping for someone with more promise.

Having lived in Washington, a 2br/2ba house is $1.1M. His doubled salary will go SO FAR in C-Stat. He is very smart to make the move.

His numbers are not good. No clue how this makes sense, but I guess not every assistant hire can be a home run.

I can be troubling as well...

He is a well respected pitching coach with west coast ties. Built the Washington pitching staff into a CWS worthy team (2018) and was named the assistant coach of the year. Washington scuffled after that but their staff ERA still hung around that 50ish mark. He left to go to Arizona and inherited a depleted staff and they struggled. Before he could recruit replacements the whole staff was fired. He landed on his feet at LSU for the 2022 year and then was offered the Washington head job. 2023 they made the playoffs getting bounced in 3 games in Stillwater. Things didn't go well in 2024 (19-31) aside from winning a series in Austin. And here we are. Was he wired about getting fired? Did he leave for more money and not having to road trip from Seattle to State College, PA for B1G games? We may never know. But he's been hired, and retained by quality baseball minds.

Know nothing about him but he is inheriting some good arms. That can make a PC look good real fast. So maybe with the takent pool he can reach here at A&M he will shine. Plus he has head coaching experience so he can help some in that capacity, giving advice here and there.

Hmmm. Not my experience in western Washington. Queen Anne maybe but there are more affordable places and the difference in property taxes makes it negligible.

With that said, SEC pitching coach is at worst a parallel move to BIG head coach and as has been said, probably more money.

Basically, this. My understanding is year 1 at ASU was viewed as a success. Year 2 was a disaster on the pitching front, but all 3 projected weekend starters were out for the year either prior to the start or near the beginning of the year. LSU fans thought he got the most out of their talent in the year he was there.

We also have to remember the money being put behind our sports programs. Our facilities are world class, Texans are just awesome compared to the PNW, and when a program putting real money behind winning comes knocking…. That's a compelling pitch.

I like Michael Earley's hire of Washington head coach Jason Kelly as the pitching coach. In 2018, Kelley was named as D1 Baseball's National Assistant Coach of the Year for elevating the Washington Huskies' pitching to help them reach the College World Series.

That's a fair concern. I mean I didn't book hotels in O or anything. I think it's a solid hire not a home run.

As I said yesterday, given Earley's hitting background I wanted a pitching coach with HC experience to help him manage the day to day stuff that he's never had to do before. At a minimum this fits the bill for what I was wanting.
