She must have taken a ton of classes each semester AND during both summer sessions. Good for her for being able to do that and play a sport!

I DID notice that Reagan got a redshirt for last year. I do not think she was listed as such the last time I looked at the roster. Would have really *ucked if she had lost an entire year for 2 innings of play in the first game of the season last Spring.

I know lots of kids coming out of high school with 40-50 hours of college credit. Not sure if that was the case with her. But it wouldn't surprise me. It makes so much sense to grind and get your masters while on scholarship! Good for her!

40 to 50 hours is real. Very cool for parents. Mine started UF with 43 hours and is now into her A&M Masters; set to graduate in May. Really looking forward to seeing this Softball team this season. Love that football leads into fastpitch!

Wow! That is the starting 3B as a freshman last year at Florida. She went to high school at Fort Bend Travis in the Houston area.

Welcome Ariel!

Whoah! Big get. I wonder what the backstory behind her transfer is.

8 home runs and hit over .300 last year

I wonder where she would play too, the infield is kind of stacked. Curious if she takes a redshirt to earn a starting spot next year

I'm not even sure if she is eligible immediately or has to take a redshirt; she's transferring right before the season starts.

She does play catcher, which is actually one of the few questions marks I have for the program. Especially after this year.

Dang, looks like a really nice pick up by Coach Ford.

Good information on the catching background. While she made 56 starts at 3B last year for Florida, she described herself as a C / Util when she signed there. I've got no idea how we plan to use her, but interesting that is an option that I wouldn't have known about her background.

On the redshirt, I don't see how that would come into play with the current rules. We had a player transfer in conference to Alabama last year with no redshirt required and she played there right away.

As long as she is in school in the Spring, I'd guess there is nothing late about her ability to play right away.

I'll defer to others on the softball transfer rules. In every other sport it seems, when pushed on any restrictions, the NCAA has ended up caving when pushed on the matter with every benefit going to the athlete.

Perhaps, softball has been able to hold the line somehow while other sports have not.

Great grab by the staff!

I also wonder where she will fit in. Junior 3B KP hit .320 last year but not a lot of power although showed more this Fall. Only 6 errors in 58 games, very good for 3B. I think she made the Pac 12 All-Freshman team her first year at UCLA, before transferring to A&M. Hitting was off from her year at UCLA but I think that is coming back.

Ariel's stats are a bit better in some categories but they are roughly equal. But starting as a Freshman for a storied program says something in itself!

https://floridagators.com/sports/softball/stats

Ojo will 'probably' be the starting C and the coaches are really high on her, much of it because of her experience. That really came out in the recent video about the team - Coach Ford loves her leadership qualities. She does have power. Freshman C DeeDee was outstanding in HS, 5A All-State with a LOT of power.

Having tough competition is always good for the team. Pushes the girls to get better every day.

I have no idea if she will be available in the Spring.

I am really, really looking forward to the first game on Feb 6 !!!

Starting 3B @ Florida
.308
8 Homeruns
33 RBI's
36 Runs

Gamechanger, this team was already absolutely loaded and added this piece for the Softball Season

Where she plays will be interesting, but what a get for Ford & Staff

3B/1st/C all of these could happen but what a great piece to add even if she has to sit out, stinks for her but her decision and I'll take it

Did Della Jasinski, the freshman pitcher from Brenham, transfer out? I am looking at the roster at 12thman.com and do not see her listed and do not recall reading about a transfer anywhere.

After Sidne and Grace transferred in I thought we might lose one or even two after the Fall with eight P's on the staff OR that Coach Ford might redshirt one or two of the freshman. Perhaps she asked Della to redshirt and Della transferred instead because she was really good in HS and wants to start somewhere.

Anyone know?

I don't remember her pitching in the fall ball games. At one point I noticed that everyone had thrown but her, but I wasn't able to watch the last couple games and don't know if she finally got worked in. I figured she might have had an injury but have no idea.

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. I pasted all the posts on the Fall games in a text file, updating after each game. Did a quick search and did not see Della.

If she was injured and still on the team she would probably still be listed on the roster. I do not think she is on the team any longer. Maybe retired (medical?) and maybe transferred. Maybe just sitting out one year for whatever reason and will be back next year. Will just have to wait and see.

Regardless, I put her name in italics with (transferred?) after the name on my roster. Also moved Reagan to the Freshman section and put (redshirt) after her name. Will give us four infielders in that class (unless Frankie moves to OF). Left off Ariel (recent 3B transfer from Florida) because I am not sure if she will be eligible in the Spring.

By the way, thanks again to everyone who posted during the Fall games. I lurked during the season last year and was hoping that people would do so this Fall - and several did!

Thanks again and I am really looking forward to next Spring !!

She is not on the team anymore. Wasn't going to play this year and was pretty much just done with the game. She's going to continue going to school at A&M but no longer playing.

Thanks for the info. Perhaps she will change her mind in the future but whatever she does I am glad she is staying at A&M!

Thanks for the great news tweet! SA link here:

We lost about half of our offense to graduation and still ranked in the Top 10, pretty darn good. We do have a lot of great bats on the team and a much better pitching staff so let's do it!

Want to stay up there and host a Super Regional this year!

One of our local talking heads thinks our hitting is a big question as a lot
of the better bats not back from last year!

Thoughts??

I tend to agree. Not hitting in general but power. Not many home runs returning. This team will have to manufacture runs and string hits together. Mac may be the only big bat in the lineup regularly. It will be a puzzle for the coaches to figure out. In the fall they were able to put 3 DPs in the lineup. If Mac or Mya end up at 1B then maybe they could get 2 of those bats in the lineup.

Best guess would be Mac at DP and Mya and Kylei in pinch hit rolls.

They will be athletic and quick though

If Ariel somehow becomes eligible this season that would be another 300 hitter that could hit double digit homeruns but she isn't listed on the roster and it was reported she would have to sit this year

This offense is LOADED, and all you have to do is look at what they did to TX STATE and tu in the fall. They put up MASSIVE runs vs. Regional and World Series pitching staffs

Honestly ok with her redshirting. We lose a lot after this year and wil be extremely nice to have her jump right in and be a leader next year. Clear pipeline for talent development with Ford. Crazy how quickly she built this program!

2024 stats here:

https://12thman.com/sports/softball/stats/2024

We lost a lot of power and a large percentage of hits, runs, doubles, etc. but we have a lot of good bats returning and some new ones (freshmen and transfers). Boozer92 phrased it nicely with "This team will have to manufacture runs and string hits together" and "It will be a puzzle for the coaches to figure out." Much better pitching staff and have had a pretty darn good defense for years. Base running was great last season. Hitting IS the big unknown.

Allie was awesome at the plate the first part of the season last year (4-6 weeks or so) but then fell off a cliff. Ended up leading the team in strikeouts. If Allie can 'get her groove back' it will be surely be a big part of the offense. Her speed, range and glove in the OF make up for the loss of offense but she was truly awesome when her bat was working - I called it "Allie Magic" !!!

Clutch hits were hard to come by many times during the SEC season. Lost several games and series that we could have won. The lack of pitching depth a big part of that. But with all of that we were only a run away from the WCWS.

We will probably see a LOT of lineup changes during non-conference! Comes back to the 'puzzle' mentioned earlier.

Mac did very well in her career at 1st at SDS. Only one error on the season. She's quick for her size. Good chance of seeing her there. But easily could be someone else. She will probably be our 'big bat' and great chance to put up some big numbers. If Maya lives up to her history and potential she would add a lot. Huge mystery what she will do.

KP was an outstanding hitter at UCLA but fell off some here. Amari had a good bat last year but will she start? KK Dement (2B) and Frankie Vrazel (RF) have very good chances at starting and both have really good bats. Ojo probably starting catcher but her bat has been up and down in her career.

I would love to see several of the freshmen at the plate but would probably be only in PH roles - DeeDee, Reagan (got the redshirt!), Larisa, Kelsey and and Harley. DeeDee and Kelsey had a LOT of power in HS. Harley was offensive player of the year for New Braunfels Canyon at least twice in her career. And that was with DeeDee (awesome hitter) on the team - that says a lot!

Hailey Golden had a good bat in HS, too, and she was a great PR last year because she is really fast and makes good decisions on the bases. She was a star in OF (and a Team MVP at least one year) in HS but will probably have to wait until next year for a shot there. Two positions will be open but signee Annsley Groce out of Keller, TX might grab one of those.

Taylor Brown (P) was also a power hitter in HS. Played 1B a lot. Really, REALLY great numbers at the plate. Will the staff give her a chance at the plate? Would love to see her in a dual role (1B and P) but probably will not see it this year - perhaps next year? Perhaps a shot at PH'ing this year? Why the heck not? But I do not know if the coaches are keen on dual role or even in PH roles.

Kramer won the starting job in OF and had a great bat. She's a fighter. Can hit the ball really hard. Can she keep it up?

Koko will be Koko!

I think we will do well this year. Deep pitching staff a big part of it and with them I think we will find the hits, runs, etc. to win more games than last year.

Feb 6 will not come soon enough !!!
