What could he have done, in your opinion, to mitigate this?

Now, take whatever your answer is and ask if it actually puts us in a better position. Are we paying 2x what we're paying coaches now (not good for long term)? Do we still have a coach that wants out?

What would you prefer him do in that situation - he knows a guy is likely to leave, and that he can't likely change his mind (and probably doesn't want to - you can't have cancerous attitudes around).....

My guess is you wanted him to do something that either (a) gives Schloss more leverage than he should have, puts the program in a financial bind and still keeps a coach that will leave as soon as we say "no" to something or (b) "get in front of it" by going public in the middle of a CWS run, doing nothing but damage to every kid trying to win a championship, but somehow making you feel "emotionally" better because he trashed our coach before he could bail on us.

Anyhow, just curious what you think would warrant an A in this scenario, given that he can't magically make Schloss a better person.

No AD gets a good grade who: (1) loses his school's best coach, especially to its biggest rival; (2) whiffs on hiring his top replacement choices; and (3) hires someone who has never been a head coach and snuck off to a rival school only days before (and may even have been illegally recruiting for the rival before he left). Alberts pissed off Schlong when he fired his buddy. You don't do that to your best coach.

1. The AD played this situation very well in my opinion. See Houston Chronicle article.
2. He interviwed the team for 45 min with the President.
3. I believe he swung for the fences and came closer to hiring Vitello than Vols want to admit. At the end of the day, our Admin put studen athletes first and made a hire accordingly.

I have much more respect for our President and AD today than I had a week ago.
