Was looking at the baseball roster today and noticed under the pronunciation guide that, for Terrance Kiel, the last name pronunciation is listed as "kill".

That is news to me. I have never heard anyone pronounce his (or his Dads) name as anything other than KIEL (like the keel of a ship). Thought it was interesting.

The short 'i' and the long 'e' have merged into a 2 syllable short 'e' hybrid.

As in, "Above the din, I seen Dean sin while settin in the den," becomes the even less decipherable and less literate "Above the den, I sen Den sen while settin in the den."

The roster has the players pronuncing their names.
He definitely says [kill]

Yeah, was just joking about Texas accents more than anything. Parts of Texas would say Kiel or Field as Kill/Filled, like Gabe.

Others would say kee-yull, or fee-yuld…I'm in this group so it always sticks out to me hearing the other pronunciation.
