By the time we got there (like 5ish because we were at a wedding), it was mostly freshman pitching. I wouldn't look too hard at that

I believe Binderup, Sorrell, and Henseler all hit home runs

(This is all from memory, so others that were there feel free to correct)

- Teams were split with the starting OF (White) and starting IF (Maroon). Justin Lamkin started for the White team and Weston Moss starter for the Maroon team.

- Lamkin looked pretty good in his 3 (I think) innings. Gave up a few hits but not a lot of hard contact. The only run he gave up was a solo shot by Binderup that was heavily wind-aided.

- I thought Weston Moss flashed some good things. Touched 94-96 on the fb and had a secondary pitch that was missing bats. I think he ended up surrendering 7 runs, but there were several that came from a string of bloop singles that should have been caught. You could tell he was tired towards the end of his outing, and that led to some harder contact.

- Caden Sorrell is dealing with a hamstring injury so he only DH'd for the White team. He still crushed one over Sections 12 and added an RBI double later.

- Kiel really impressed me with his bat and defense. Destroyed a ball for an RBI double and made a great throw in from RF to keep a runner at 3rd. He will push for a role on this team.

- Wyatt Henseler hit a two run HR that got out in a hurry. His walk up song today was the Home Depot theme song and I really hope that sticks because it's hilarious.

- The most criminally underrated aspect of Jace's game continues to be his speed. He legged out a triple to the LCF gap to put that on full display.

- Marco Jones (football signee) played the whole game in Lf for the Maroon team. Dude is a physical freak and you can tell he has a ton of raw power. His defense was an adventure, but he had a pair of singles including one that was scorched.

- Gavin Lyons had a rough beginning to his outing with three walks and an error trying to pick off at second base. His second inning was much better, got Sorrell and Jace to weakly pop out.

Moss relies on both his change up and slider, and was getting good swing and miss on both. Use was fairly dependent on whether the batter was righty or lefty. I like his change up a bit more, though.

I've heard Kiel can absolutely crush the ball. Line drive machine.

I'll echo everything Detective Jake said. Lyons isn't going to blow anybody away but he missed bats. Cunningham pitches off the breaking ball which is weird for a guy his size. His fastball was 84-88 but he's straight over the top so his breaking ball is a 12-6. If Peyton Smith ever reins it in he could be nasty. He just has so much going on with his delivery idk that he ever will. Ty Baker was filthy. Mid to upper 90s fastball with a breaking ball that was anywhere from 82-87. Idk that he'll fill a Cortez roll but maybe he can do what Moss did last year if Moss ends up our Tuesday starter.

Kiel is a spark plug. He's going to play for us, I just don't know where. Binderup's HR was definitely helped by the wind, but it was probably the highest ball I've ever seen hit in my life. A few millimeters lower on the barrel and he's peppering the rec. Schott can still hit, but he can't run to save his life. Had a brace on his knee under his pants and just doesn't move well at all. Marco Jones is a big dude. Idk if he'll do anything for us this year other than maybe get some ABs here and there because he doesn't look comfortable in the OF.

I was there for first 6 innings.

Lamkin dealt well. Worked around around traffic (including 2 hits by Schott). Binderup HR impressed me because it came off Lamkin.

Kiel was the eye opener for me. He is ELECTRIC. That kid has GOT to play or at least platoon.

Sorrell crushed a HR and double. Didn't run because of hammy.

Moss gave up a big 3rd inning w 2 outs when OF let him down by letting a pair of pop ups drop due to bad communication

I thought Bergevin looked good at 1B and at plate.

Of the big departing pieces from 2024, the key questions for me are who replaces the greatest reliever in A&M history (Aschenbeck), Cortez, and Appel behind the dish.

Scrimmage wasn't going to answer those questions.

We are loaded in OF and IF.

Got to see that on display yesterday. Another one of those guys where the ball just sounds different coming off the bat.

Sounds like we have started the season 1-1. The calls to fire Earley will be coming soon.

I was there for the first 7 innings. BEAUTIFUL day for baseball! The crowd was great, pretty jam packed!

Bergevin looks like a brick house. Not overly impressive at the plate, but I think he will come around.

Henseler looked pretty good at 2B and hit a line drive shot over the LF fence.

Tubby stretching out a triple was impressive.

Sorrell may end up being the best hitter on the team. Looked really good at the plate. Hope his hammy heals up soon.

Kiel was very impressive at the plate and in RF. I can see him breaking into the lineup more than I thought he would.

I really liked what I saw from Jamal George. I'd like to see him behind the dish to see what he can do at catcher. Otherwise, I don't know where he'll get playing time.

I think the biggest question marks for this season are:
Catcher (especially defensively)
1B (Bergevin, Binderup?)
Coaching (1st year HC, there will be ups and downs).

Did Gavin Kash play at all? I thought he was supposed to be a pretty decent "get" in the portal.

Kash was a 2nd team AA…that being said, I haven't seen it in a very limited sample size. I am sure it has more to do with the sample size. Kiel looks great. Not sure what to do with him. Could see where plays OF and Kash moves to 1B if hitting and the other two aren't.

Sorrell just looks so natural at the plate. I'd give him next week off if need be. Play Kiel. It's Greta having depth.

Would have love to seen Farr.

Kiel is a stud

Bloop single to shallow LF that he turned into a hustle double and then his RBI double could've easily been scored a stand up triple if the runner in front of him didn't get thrown out at home. He was standing on third watching the play at the plate. He damn near caught the runner ahead of him.

The best part of the day for me was seeing the student section go nuts when Taylor's 3 went in about two seconds before Sorrell's bomb over section 12. Perfect timing

Due to his lineage, I was focused on Kiel. I think he is going to be a spark plug for this team. That kit has a nice swing and can hit the ball. He crushed a foul shot down the third base line that I think would have gotten out of there if fair. He has loads of speed on the base paths and he appears to possess a cannon for an arm.

That sequence made me miss both. I was watching the game on my phone, heard very loud contact and looked up to see Sorrell pimping the hell out of it, looked down and it was 64-67.

Who was it that hit that hard liner right back at Lamkin? I still don't know how he snagged that ball!
