Are we:

1) Feeling like everything is fine, just getting the rust off? Nothing to worry about…

2) Concerned but optimistic that we will get it figured out?

3) In full panic due to struggling in so many phases of the game to a lesser opponent?

I think I'm a 2, and looking for folks to convince me to be a 1!

It's the second game of the season amigo. Take a breath

It is early but I am concerned given the competition. The team does not look anywhere close to sharp. Is it just trying to get in sync with the new coaches and players? I hope so but this does not look like the #1 team this far. Time will tell.

Panicking at this point would be silly. Being slightly concerned having several guys playing out of their normal positions was an issue I personally felt was a bigger deal than we made it.

The log jam at 1B is a story line that im not sure will work itself out completely most the year. Bergevin can absolutely rake and was surprised he didn't win the starting 1B job but binderup has swung the bat well... But is a butcher at 1B and he can't play any other positions. Schott being the DH and also not really having a true position limits us to a degree on flexibility with our roster.

Once Sorrell is back, Kiel can play anywhere as can Farr and kash can play 1B. So I guess the main question is can Schott play anywhere in the field? If he can that opens up your DH and gives your lineup a TON more flexibility.

Binderup, Kash, beegevin can all DH then

It's a fantastic problem to have and I was hoping binderup defense had really improved so it wasn't an issue, but he's clearly got a long ways to go

Biggest "concerns" going into the season for me were 1B, C, and coaching. I say coaching because Earley is a first year guy - like first time head coaching anywhere. I know the players love him but I think some ups and downs should be expected. Gotta give Bergevin a shot at 1B. Binderup is a liability defensively over there. Catcher is going to be by committee until one of them separates themselves.

I think #2 is probably the right spot to be. It's far too early to panic. It was always going to take some time for new HC and staff to get their footing even with how good the roster looks. You're still 2-0.

Pitching would be the one thing I'm most nervous about this year but that's primarily because Max really seemed to bring out the best in the rotation, not sure about Kelly personally.

It's baseball. I'm not concerned 2 games in. I'm not impressed either tbf. We've withheld several of our better arms from the pen so far, so it's clear we are trying to get the young guys going. That doesn't always happen immediately. Let's revisit before we go to the juice box.

Right? Sometimes I feel like I'm in the twilight zone here. And their starting pitching yesterday was legit.

Shott tore the same meniscus in his knee 2 weeks ago...prior to that Earley said the plan was to give Schott a little time in the field...now that's off the table.

Right which in my opinion puts us in a bit of a predicament. If Schott is ONLY your DH every night…and binderup can't play any other positions and is sub par at 1b you're sort of land locked at 2 positions.

How will you get ABs for bergevin, Kiel, Farr etc? That puts Earley in a tough spot where you are trying to keep binderup in the lineup knowing you've got some much better fielders sitting on the bench who can also really swing the lumber. add kash at 1B which allows those guys moving to LF also as an option.

Again good problem to have but tough to sort out

I must be living in an alternate reality. Are we not 2-0? Did we not just win todays game by 10 points? What are we supposed to be figuring out?

Schott likely will be DH for season as per Early he retore his meniscus a few weeks ago. He was a canidate to possibly play some LF before that

I'm feeling we are two games into a 56 game season
I'm feeling every game has nine innings at a minimum
I'm feeling we are starting five new position players
I'm feeling one- maybe two of our better pitchers will not pitch this year (SDAO, Wansing), so we are evaluating roles
I'm feeling it is pointless to over evaluate every single pitch, every single swing, every single play for every single inning for every single game
I'm feeling there will be bad pitches, bad at bats and bad fielding from time to time- that's baseball
I'm feeling we will lose some games- even some conference games- that's baseball.
We saw lots of folks jumping off the bandwagon when we lost the opening SEC series to Florida- so much gnashing of teeth, pulling of hair, panties getting wadding….

Bottom line it's gonna be a long, grinding, season, we have a deep experienced team, sit back and enjoy the ride!

Game 1 was misty and rainy where hit balls didn't carry well.
Both teams had good pitching to start, and they used up their best arms.

Game two we run ruled them.

Any panic at this point is utterly ridiculous.

We will be fine.

Too many people base their concern on a team's lack of name-branding and other media peoples' WAG's about how good or bad they may be by season's end. Throw in the effect cold weather can have in early season games and strike zone variability with college umps and other early season variables and you have unreliable data points. Immature belief in perfection from first pitch is also in evidence.

I've been waiting to say this for a long time.
The 2924 season is over, and doesn't carry over.
The worst thing to happen to this program, was to be ranked pre-season #1 with a new coach.
Fan expectations are unrealistic.
Nothing is guaranteed.
This entire situation is a pressure cooker.

Part of me feels like from a pitching standpoint, the staff is treating it almost like spring training. Let's guys see what's going to work and what won't. They know the sticks should take care of business and letting our guys on the bump figure things out before conference starts.

No defensively, I think it's knocking the rust off. With that being said, misplaying both ground balls and fly balls are a different story. That needs to be addressed asap.

There is no pressure cooker. Team looks like they're having fun and relaxed (very evident if you see them off the field). Most of the ling time fans too. Worst pressure (and is inevitable because its baseball) will come from those only paying attention because they are #1 and we hit a slump). But ignore those, they will come and go.
