I'm curious what others are doing to prepare for Friday's game? I just ordered electric hand warmers and a battery-powered vest (no, I don't handle cold very well) (also, no I don't care how cold it is up north Sean98 ).

Well, now we know who to blame if there isn't enough ragging going on!

Will be interesting to see what kind of "rain" it is on Saturday. It would be tough to get a double header in on Sunday.

So it'll be around 32 in College Station on Friday… That means an Olsen field it'll be at around 15 degrees

All jokes aside, that will be miserable weather to play baseball in.

Inside fastball, inside fastball, inside fastball.

I'm wondering if a Saturday doubleheader is in play

I'm thinking a Friday DH since rain seems to be in the forecast Saturday.

Heavy chance only 2 games get in this weekend with the forecast also sucking Sunday.

Really hoping it's not one of those years… last year we got lucky with great weather at home games.

Maybe it has changed but the forecast posted above shows Sunday as the best baseball weather day of the three.

I'm not a weatherman, nor do I play one on TV, but Weather Underground indicates that the best chance of precipitation is Saturday evening. Rain chances start picking up in the middle of the afternoon, so if it were up to me, I'd probably move Saturday's first pitch up to noon. Friday night and Saturday are going to be similarly uncomfortable, but at least the wind won't be howling (7-8 mph from the NE). Of course, that's easy for me to say since I told my sister she could go on her birthday cruise this week and I would take care of her pets, so I will not be braving the cold. Hats off to those that will.

11 AM game vs Tenn. at Reed and 12 PM first pitch? Good luck with parking everyone...

With basketball at 11am (again) that would make for a insane parking CF

A 2:00 p.m. baseball first pitch with a 11:00 basketball tipoff didn't work very well last week. Since rain chances increase later in the afternoon, starting baseball while the basketball game is still going on (and not when thousands are trying to leave campus after the basketball game) would probably make the most sense. Maybe a 12:30 start would be better.

Ok... Since you've banishes Sean98...
I've worked some winter weather in Wyoming and am recently back from Saskatoon. Coldest I dealt with was -31*F(reedom).

Layers. If you're gonna go sit at Olsen/BB then layers are your friend.
You'll be sedentary and exposed to whatever wind there is and potentially rain. The below is a layer or two short of -31* mess, but truthfully no one stays out in that very long

The below should have you sweating on Friday night and overkill on saturday & sunday
  • Underroos -- briefs or boxer briefs
  • Put on your socks
  • Long johns over the socks and over the briefs
  • Undershirt -- short sleeve
  • Long sleeve shirt -- when I'm in the field it's a button down work shirt, for me usually cotton, but flannel is good too
  • Jeans -- both shirts tucked in
  • Sweater or sweatshirt
  • On your neck... Neck gaiter. I like to put if on before the button up shirt so I can get it well tucked into the shirt, no gaps. Though I generally go with a full head /face covering balaclava. I can roll it off my head ears or put it fully on as needed
  • Beanie hat
  • Gloves. Mittens are better if you don't need to use your fingers
  • Get a jacket or coat over everything
  • Finally rain gear to stay dry
  • Get a blanket or other padding between you and the bleacher
Edit to add... Hydrate like you would to work outside all day in August. Hydration is key to staying warm. And don't hold it. May God have mercy on you when you get the call from nature and it's time to dig through all of that.

Play these games at Cal Poly this weekend in beautiful weather. Baseball and Paso Robles wine tastings. Cal Poly plays at Baggett Stadium…..named after Robin Baggett who owns Alpha Omega Winery in Napa.

I have the solution! Let's go to Cal Poly to play the series. San Luis Obispo, CA weather for this weekend: Highs in the 70s.

Edit: Sorry, threeanout. I was working from an older load of this thread and didn't see your post. But I concur!

The regional game / soccer match parking swap last summer was a cluster... if you can do that you can do a basketball / baseball swap.

With the current game time, there are many who will attend both. If they start early, then the baseball stands will likely be more empty until after the basketball gam. Regardless Olsen will not be packed this weekend.

Since it's been 25 years now, I'm going to take this opportunity to remember that the single game on Friday night against Baylor in 2000 made me duck down behind the last row of seats on the lower level for a bit to get out of the wind. I was definitely a popsicle by the end of that game.

With the exception of one bad pitch to Carlos Sepulveda, Chad Hawkins ate our breakfast, lunch and dinner that night.

Olsen field is without a doubt the coldest place in BCS at any given point on a cold day… it's also the hottest place in town on a summer day.

I can't explain it but it's true

No worries. The forecast seems to be getting worse. High of 34 on Friday. High of 43 on Saturday with 80% chance of rain. A chance of sunshine on late Sunday afternoon. Can't imagine Cal Poly is real excited about getting on a plane tomorrow and flying in to this weather.

I would watch baseball against Nobody University in 22* driving rain before I'd watch a Top 5 basketball matchup in Allen Fieldhouse.

And leave space in the boots. Air pore space is what keeps you warm. If you're going to wear double socks or heavy socks then go a size up in shoes.

For a second I thought you said "space boots." And... yeah. Space boots would work. It's about -450 in space, but astronauts' toes stay nice and toasty.

Actually, yeah. Rolling up to Olsen this weekend in a full EVA suit.
(Or maybe not. Those things are terribly heavy.)
