Five (really 6) Aggie batters were hit by a pitch yesterday.

I wonder if Rudis plunked the lead off batter in the 9th on purpose…and maybe even the 2nd guy as well since he had an open base.

Red ass if true, and if so I imagine he acted alone.

Doubt it. I imagine it's probably a little hard to control your throws when your fingers are frozen.

Wyatt said after the game that he gets hit by pitch a lot. He's been the hit by pitch leader on every team he's been on.

As a pitcher you have zero feel for the baseball in weather like that. That's it

He and Gravin can compete for that this season.

First thought that went through my head, but doesn't sound like an Earley move(or Rudis). Cold is cold.

Regarding Kiel's at bat where the ball hit his hand, the possible calls were ball, strike, or HBP.
They ruled that he moved his hand toward the ball intentionally and called it a strike per NCAA rules.
MLB would have ruled it a ball.

Hit By Pitch, Stay Here! Rule Differences & NCAA Strike
Quote:

In college, such as the St Mary's-Pepperdine game, NCAA Rule 7-4-i states that, "A strike is awarded if the batter is judged to intentionally make a movement to be hit by a pitch, regardless of where the pitch is located; or allows themself to be intentionally hit by a pitch that is not thrown within the boundaries of the batter's box unless it was not possible to avoid being hit."

In MLB or MiLB, though, this same play would result in a ball added to the count, pursuant to OBR 5.05(b)(2), which adjudicates the play differently: "The batter makes no attempt to avoid being touched by the ball...If the ball is in the strike zone when it touches the batter, it shall be called a strike, whether or not the batter tries to avoid the ball. If the ball is outside the strike zone when it touches the batter, it shall be called a ball if they make no attempt to avoid being touched."

That one Wyatt took was too close for comfort.

They announced it as a foul ball, not a strike for moving into it.

Essentially saying it did not hit his hand. It was clear as day it hit him in the hand.

Regardless of what was announced at the game, the radio was told by Birmingham that it was determined he moved his hand into the pitch intentionally, or "caught" the pitch, which made it a strike.

Which is BS because no way someone TRIES to break their hand in 39 weather!

Yep. Debating whether he moved into it seems fair, but calling it a foul ball is just wrong.

100% correct. I wouldn't move my hand into a whiffle ball when it was that cold. Wouldn't doubt it if Sankey was in the office when the phone rang for the review.
