Hate this for Gavin.
Link? Also, last year could mean 12/31/2024. Per the article by Zane, the injury is unrelated to the left wrist he had surgery on this offseason and recovery is expected to take 6 months. He already missed most all of the fall due to the wrist, so my assumption is this must've pretty late, at which point it was miss the year or try to play. He chose the latter but ultimately wasn't able to.The_Truth said:
Per local BCS CBS affiliate, his dad said it's been a known injury since last year! Should have had this taken care of in the offseason. Why risk it becoming an issue during this season?!
Assuming you watched in person or on tv, you saw the wincing on lots of his swings. I don't think this was load management -- this was can he swing the bat in live situations. I'm not sure what they saw in practice that would have been different though because it was pretty clear in the games that it hurt. Badly.Gap said:RED AG 98 said:It was a pain management thing, not a risk of further injury thing. He tried to tough it out but clearly it was pretty painful, especially on his swing. It wasn't going to heal with rest so it was either try to play or don't.Gap said:
Why did he play in every game and then the injury became too untenable to play through? Shouldn't he have been getting some rest? Weird approach.
Pain management for an injury a guy is trying to learn to work to play thru is not exactly playing every game both in the field and at the plate. No days off at all and not even a game where he DH'd and didn't play in the field. That's just an absolutely strange for a guy trying to learn to play with this. A little reduced workload would have absolutely been something to try and especially to start with.

No real details in there other than "last year." Since he was held out of most of fall ball I think it's still pretty unclear what that means.Quote:
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - Texas A&M third baseman Gavin Grahovac will miss the remainder of the 2025 season due to a tear to his non-throwing labrum, Grahovac's father Mike Grahovac, and A&M head coach Michael Earley confirmed with KBTX.
Grahovac's father, Mike, told KBTX's Travis L. Brown that the initial injury happened last year. Grahovac will undergo surgery that will require a lengthy recovery.
Grahovac is the reigning SEC Freshman of the Year and was on the 2025 Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List. He was a preseason second-team All-American and preseason first-team All-SEC.
The Sophomore was 5-for-22 in the first two weekends with two home runs, six RBI, and seven runs scored. His 23 home runs last year are the most by an Aggie freshman.
TexAgs' Ryan Brauninger was the first to report Grahovac's season-ending surgery.
The No. 1 Aggies are back in action Tuesday at 6 p.m. hosting Texas State.

I hate this for Gavin, but let's face it, this team is built better to handle something like this than any A&M team in the past. Henseler is a natural 3B, we have 3 or more guys that are very capable of filling the gap at 2B. Honestly our defense may be better after this. Certainly compared to a 1 armed GG which was clearly what we had so far.
Great kid, great family. I hope the surgery goes well, that his rehab is smooth, and that he can be even half the cheerleader that B-Mont was last year.

I have a torn labrum in my non throwing shoulder and no way would I try to go a full season with it. Not sure how bad Gavin's is but my doctor said expect 12-16 weeks totally immobilized except for PT and 10-12 months recovery
PRP and other shots only helped so much
He still would have missed most of this season due to recovery, so he probably hoped he could play through it. As we saw, he couldn't.fightinag said:
If the shoulder problem has been known.....why didn't he have off season surgery ?
Agree. Hate losing a top 3 bat.Sean98 said:

And was hitting .227 and in pain against the first 2 scrubs. More a testament to his grit and strength than the situation.TAMU1990 said:
He still hit 2 homers with that bad shoulder too
