The athletic dept site shows Kiel's position as INF/OF. Anyone know what he played at Pace Academy?

Where did this Schott at first base stuff come from? I saw it several times over the weekend. He has never played the position.

I didn't mean for schott to be an field player option. Just he'd be a dh option with those other two

I would have Sorrell protecting Jace.

So much depends on if Kash can get going. I think he's the lynch pin in this whole scenario. We really don't know who is going to win out at 2nd (Kiel/Farr - I give the edge to Keil but I suspect Farr is the better fielder).

Henseler
LaViolette
Sorrell
Kash
Schott
Binderup
Kent
2nd base
Galloway

I can't agree more. Jace needs to be in the three hole.

Would also like this:
Kent SS
LaViolette CF
Henseler 3B
Sorrell RF
Schott DH
Binderup 1B
Kash LF
Kiel 2B
Galloway C

If Kiel can't play 2B then just but George in the same spot.

The best hitter in the one hole worked well for Tenn. Forces pitcher to go at him because you don't want to walk the leadoff guy. Curious how that would look in practice across the entire season.

it will be a simple swap of Sorrell's bat in… Gavin out…

Sorrell goes to OF…. TK to 2nd… Henseler back to 3rd

Jace strikes out way to much for leadoff.. nothing has changed about that this year

Striking out doesn't matter. His OBP was like .449 last year and is .444 so far this year. Who cares if he strikes out or grounds out? An out is an out.

With Sorrell back I like
1. Jace
2. Wyatt
3. Sorrell
4. Schott
5. Bindy
6. Kent
7. Kash
8. Farr / George / Kiel
9. Galloway

I like the idea of Galloway at leadoff, but I think he is more valuable at the 9. Without Sorrell I'd like to see Kent move up to the 3 spot and Kiel continue to play right. This lineup will take shape if Kash begins to hit like his normal self, he is the domino.

Jace does strike out plenty, but so did Grahovac. The difference is Jace walks at a way higher rate. I think he would be a great leadoff not to mention the possibility of getting 1 more AB a game.

i agree with the OBP% 100%…. however, i think there is a big difference in the quality of AB… if you have 2 hitters that both have OBP of .400… give me the one who is putting the ball in play and making an out vs the one who is K'ing.. for me, that's a better AB. For the record, i wouldn't have had GG at leadoff either. For me, Jace has a lot of really poor AB's before he makes the out. Does the guy hit a ton of HR and have big power? for sure… but i'd be in the minority here in saying i don't think he's our best overall hitter.

Aggie1322… i'd bet there is not a coach in our dugout who would agree "an out is an out"

it's a very very small sample size, but ya i'd see what TK looked like at leadoff… 1 K this season, OBP well over .500%, speed… ya i'd stick him there and see what he does

Judge strikes out a ton and bat leadoff. Shohei is the best player in baseball, was leadoff on the Angels and so far is leadoff on the Dodgers. Straight analytics says this is the move, and further as mentioned above that strikeouts don't matter.

Do you get on base? And do you frequently hit for extra bases? Those are the more meaningful points of discussion.

Red… i hear ya… i'm not saying Jace at leadoff is terrible.. it's great there are options… Shohei is obviously a very very rare example, once in 100 years. I really can't think of it, but is there another MLB who has their best hitter hitting leadoff?

It's not like Jace is striking out on three pitches.. he is usually extremely patient and works counts. In fact, the only thing I would say in opposition of putting him at leadoff is that the defense is allowed to shift him. That's the only negative I can think of.

I'd rather have one of the faster guys in center than Jace.

The lineup is going to depend more on whos hot and whos slumping (or at least it should).

100% He's the one guy left teams will game plan to pitch around. I'd rather that not start the game ensuring there's no one on base to make that more difficult. Leadoff not only allows them to shift on him, but be extra careful on how the pitch him for the first at bat.

A quick sampling of recent MLB MVPs shows quite a few -- Aaron Judge, Shohei, Mike Trout (before and now after Shohei), Mookie Betts, Jose Altuve, etc.

It's nuanced and there are many ways to play it, but this the MLB trend is pretty clear.
