Have we had a single long inning this season? I remember we used to wear down pitchers like crazy. Seemed like we were always working counts, getting people on base, putting pressure on pitchers. Feels like we have too many guys swinging for the fences this year or something. We just don't have long innings anymore.

It is a just the start and baseball is a marathon not a sprint. I'm just starting to get a little worried about our approach.

I don't put this all on Earley either. The players and the coaches all have a role in the wins and losses. They all take responsibility for the results. I rarely hear great players blame coaching unless its like pete carrol throwing on the 2 or something.

Small sample size. They want the long innings too, which is why it looks like they're pressing at the plate in my opinion. Need to start with getting the lead man on base.

The reason txst had a long inning was because of walks. They didnt beat us around the diamond tonight

hide the women and children...

last year's team scored 80 runs in its first 7 games

this year's team has scored 47 runs in its first 7 games

that's quite a difference

We aren't working counts and getting on base. We aren't hitting hard line drives and ground balls. We are making things extremely easy on the defense with largely terrible at bats. Plus - we have too many holes in the lineup. Braden bailed us out a ton last year and Jace isn't doing that thus far. Just not enough guys hitting the ball hard at the end of the day - lots of returning players and guys who succeeded elsewhere. Maybe just a slow start, but the lack of walks and solid AB's is really concerning.

I'm very surprised bergevin has not gotten some more ABs.

I think we have a lot of guys with proven hitting talent who are a little more worried about competing to nail down a position rather than focusing on the opponent's pitching etc. Given the level of extreme talent our hitters are absolutely known to have, this would be understandable. Also, we have quite a few young or inexperienced arms on this team, most of whom have shown that they possess very good stuff, but they really need to get their control down and gain more composure and poise as the young season unrolls.

ya that's not how baseball works. Tenn was ranked #1 and didn't go to Omaha. people go on streaks in this game.

Through 7 games, 2024 / 2025:

Batting Avg: .360 / .258
Total Runs: 80 / 47
Runs/Game: 11.4 / 6.7
BB/Game: 8.4 / 5.1

Our pitching (relief pitching) hasn't been very good, but good enough to where we would still be undefeated if our offense wasn't this horrific. We are not working counts, as seen with the drastic reduction in BBs. We're not hitting the ball either. Well, we're hitting it - but I can't remember seeing as many weak pops as I've seen so far.

Bottom line: We're making it WAY too easy on opposing pitchers.

Who or what will be the spark to get this team going??? Goodness.

Coming into this season i thought pitching would be our Achilles heal........not out offense. This team has the capability to average 14 runs a game especially in non-conference.

The thing I've noticed the most is that pitchers aren't afraid to throw at us.. at all. Constantly filling up the zone, pitching backwards flawlessly, and the general feel I am getting is our guys are surprised by it. It's tough to work a long at bat like you guys are talking about when a guy is just filling up the zone early and when they get behind are able to throw a breaking ball in there for a strike.

Simply put, I don't think our approach has been that bad. I think pitchers are just picking us apart with ease. Our team is going to have to drop the mantra of "be patient because these guys aren't going to give me much to hit" out the window for the time being.

As I mentioned on the bleh thread. Teams are throwing strikes early on us while we watch pitches get by. Then we are down in counts and having to bat defensively while getting thrown all the junk.

Earley has gotta give the kids the green light on first pitch.

Second post and should've ended the thread. Absolutely pressing. I'd like to see the rankings knock them down to 5-6 and tick them off. We're getting everyone's best shot with that 1 out there and we are making it easy by trying to hit HRs every swing. Hanseler was the only guy last night going with the pitch and not trying to just hit it out. Pressing.

Gotta throw strikes. Nipping at corners, throwing pitches in the dirt, or outsmarting oneself is the bane of good pitching.

The offense will come around, hopefully the pitching will too.

I think I have to respectfully disagree. I see your logic, but here are my issues...

1. It is a small sample size, but it also isn't. We have played 7 of our 55 regular season games. 13% of the season is already in the books. Yes...there is definitely time to turn it around, but I think we are past the point of "it's just one game" or "it's just one weekend".

2. Texas State did beat us around the diamond last night. Nine hits...all of which were absolutely barreled up and struck hard. They had 5 extra base hits...3 doubles and 2 HRs.

3. Texas State did to us what we used to do to folks...they drew 10 walks, executed a perfect sac bunt the one time they needed to do so, left 13 runners on base (which means they were thiiiiiiiis close to winning the game via run rule), and kept our hitters off balance all night.

Texas State last night looked a whole lot like A&M looked in the past. They bullied us in every facet of the game and we had no response.

And again, we certainly still have time to flip the switch and turn this season into a big success. I'm not ready to jump ship - but we cannot afford to piddle around much longer. Our margin for error is small.

People also go in slumps in this game...and we are certainly in one.

What does pitching backwards mean? Wink..... wink

I'm not sure Earley can be the head coach and batting coach. There is only one guy on that team getting consistent quality swings. The experiment at 1B looks bad and the DH looks like #!2 last year.

I asked some friends this weekend if wearing #12 is a curse.

Take 3 of what's supposed to be our best hitters: Kash, Tubby and Schott

Tubby: .217
Kash: .160
Schott: .222

Combined: .200, 16 BBs and 24 Ks.

Last 3 games combined: .133, 5 BBs, 14 Ks. (yuuuuuuck)

Surely this has to change....right?
