I sorta understand Earley standing behind him after the first blown save, but in the closer role, either you've got it or you don't, and Freshcorn doesn't have it

Can the Freshcorn for closer experiment end now?

Closers have to have that killer instinct and/or ease about them that we saw with Evan the last 2 years. Unfortunately Freshcorn looks like he's still catching up to the speed of the game, size of the stage, and brightness of the lights of D1 baseball.
Just the way he looked coming out of the pen I could tell he wasn't confident. His mound presence (or lack thereof) communicated the same thing.

He gave up 3 infield singles tonight

I'm pretty sure the runner he inherited on second base moved to 3rd base on a hard hit ball to left. There was a hit to Kent who couldn't make a tough play, and then Wyatt missed a hard ball at third.
You are correct. Solid single to left. The runner on second either misread whether it could be caught or simply got a poor jump so only advance to third.
Still there was some makeable defensive plays (not easy but certainly makeable) that could have gotten us to the bottom of the 9th tied 2-2 rather than a run down. As bad as Tuesday night was, we did play very solid D and even made some excellent plays. Same through the first 8 innings tonight.

The mistake was playing with fire and bringing Wilson out for the 9th after he uncharacteristically looked really good against two hitters in a row in the 8th.
This wasn't purely on the pitcher. Our infield continues to make mistakes. I love the kid but Kent clearly has not proven himself as a SEC SS. Or at least, our defense at that position has not been elite that is for sure. But beyond that too as 3B play hasnt been the greatest either including Gavin.
I am depressed. Of course we have a preseason team that was historically ranked as #1. Now we have lost 3 games in a row.
This team looks entirely different from the last 2 years. And we all know what has drastically changed from last year. I won't say it but I am slightly nervous about this very early Earley experiment. Man, do I want that guy to succeeed too.
Still a long season ahead and baseball is a fickle sport. But they had better right this ship and soon. Players are whiffing and look really bad at their plate appearances across most the lineup. And that is our strength. Not gonna win many games unless it changes and changes quickly.

We couldn't provide more than 2 runs of support against pitchers we should have abused. It's probably tough as a pitcher to feel like you're constantly in a pressure cooker with no margin for error. Maybe look for blame somewhere else.
Do you guys go to bed miserable, then wake up miserable? Quit moaning and groaning and support this team. You think Earley or the players don't feel bad about the way things are going??? THEY WILL RIGHT THIS SHIP, and if not, support them anyway without all the negativity!

But that's the role of the closer and the reason for the OP, you either have what it takes under pressure or you don't
I can only imagine it's holding his pitch count down for today or tomorrow????
