Exactly. So tired of hearing the exit velo stuff. Feels like a cop-out/excuse that can be used at any time to explain away poor offense. Even when we mash a home run, that's awesome in & of itself. Don't need to hear how it was 104 off the bat. Just hit em where they ain't.

I feel bad for him. a month ago, he was about to call a season for the #1 team in the country and the favorite to win our first national championship in a major sport in any of our lifetimes.

A month later we are #139 in RPI, and we have 6 losses to some teams that barely have a program.

Its a stunning fall from grace.

Seriously, you feel bad for Brauny? He's not even a full time broadcaster

100 mph fly balls into a 20 mph wind make easy fly outs.

100 mph ground balls occasionally find a hole and result in a man on base.

If you are fortunate enough to get to Omaha, you find yourself hitting into a 20 mph south wind quite often. That's the problem I have with all this exit velo and launch angle stuff. These statistics come from average taken over a large sample size, but the conditions under which college baseball determines its champion come under a very different set of conditions from the average.

He can get a little preachy about how "the average fan doesn't know anything about baseball" from time to time but he is also a breath of fresh air, generally very humorous and entertaining and definitely knows his sh**. I like the games he calls and he's great when he fills in for Nuno on the morning show

And stop yapping about exit speed.

You are getting out hit by teams like Cal Poly,

How about all the lazy fly balls and pop ups because everyone is swinging for the fences!
Cannot stress it enough...this is our biggest problem as an offense. An entirely risky offensive approach by the HC. I understand the lure of this line-up's power potential but when the power is cut....just look at how this team has performed off generator power.

Bats better come ALIVE or we are royally screwed. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING hinges on their ability to hit HRs. We have solid starting pitching but unless it is Prager....this team needs to score runs to win in the SEC. And the concept of simply putting the ball into play, seems outlandish to most this line-up. And guess what???? Jacking the ball 300 ft into the air is NOT putting the ball into play IMO.

Figure it is far too late for Earley to think about asking players to swing differently. That's a big change that doesn't happen quickly.

And YES, it is a bit annoying to hear about exit velocities over and over again. Who cares if those balls are resulting in out after out. And continually stating that Jace's swing is great....please. I would NOT call Jace's at bats for the majority of the season....good. He rarely seems to hit true line drives until today's game. Brauny is becoming that brown noser with few degrees of criticality. I sure hope he ends up 100% correct about it all. My eyes are telling my brain something different but SEC ball hasn't begun quite yet.

I'm not interested in exit velocity or launch angle. We can see it. I guess they're on the radio too. 17 hadn't hit well but it's not always the wind. That's a little tiresome. Brauniger is very knowledgeable and I'm not sure whether he should be talking to a novice or the most seasoned fan.

Again as a style I don't like the constant chatter. And yes he speaks to those watching as if they know nothing about baseball. I don't need to be preached to or lectured. Just a little commentary from time to time and let the announcer lead. Maybe its a generational thing but I don't need the constant stimulus. The game speaks for itself. There are times when silence and watching the play is beautiful...

Constant chatter is what the color man is supposed to do. I like listening to him, although I'm always at the games and rarely get to. He is knowledgeable and knows a lot about the game.

Can't watch the play on radio though and he's primarily a radio guy. Yeah, you can listen for the crack of the bat but dead air isn't usually a good radio thing.

All I'm saying is Vince Scully had a way of knowing when silence is fitting and when to talk. Brauninger needs to learn that. You don't have to fill all of the air time with talk. Silence can be .. well .. golden. He's not bad, but he could be better. And we don't need to hear what he thinks every second of the game.

you are comparing him to the most legendary commentator in the sport.

Listen to some of the other programs and be grateful. Any time I watch a non-TCU broadcast, I'm so happy I have my guys. Brauny is pretty good.

Him being paired with WJ does him no favor. I would like to hear Nick Savage instead.

Brauny imparts a lot of knowledge. Sometimes, a little space to digest what he's offering would be useful. It's also best to allow a short pause after the play by play description to allow listeners to digest what has happened, particularly on the radio.

I'll take Brauny as is over a lot of color commentators, but I'm sure he will improve as he refines his technique.

Agree. Gotta let the game breathe. Clendenin does a fairly good job of it. Brauny is fine and will continue to get better.

I like Brauny and especially when my son is watching games with me. I tell him to listen to all of the info/knowledge Brauny drops when he's talking (everything from hitting/fielding/pitching/mindset/etc.). You can learn a lot about the intricacies of the game if you pay attention to him.

I think you've said it best. I like his analysis and I learn when I listen to him, but I really do need a little space to think it through. Especially after a play-by-play description. If there's constant talking, I tend to zone out and not listen as well as if there are some pauses.

the Ags don't sacrifice bunt much...but when they do...I like Brauny's commentary:

I'm giving an example of how silence can help with the quality of the commentary. Less commentary, get to the point then give time to digest. And don't be afraid if after a play you don't say anything... It feels like a race to fill on air time. Hoping it gets better and I acknowledge that based on these comments I'm in the minority.

I don't listen to Texags radio much anymore due to the numerous sponsor reads and sponsor plugs, but Brauny is the least of their problems. I could listen to Brauny for days over a single featurette from WJ. Oh well. But those receipts are a different story.
