If we don't make a regional then I'd move on and have a full coaching search. Dont go with the players choice to "hold a roster together". Go for a full search and get a top guy or at least a guy like Heefner from DBU who has been good with less talent

I agree. Legitimately at this point what would it take to make a regional? I thought we'd have to win damn near every series at home and we've now lost our first one.

I think getting to 30 wins (30-24 going into Hoover) would put you on the right side of the bubble. At 10-8 and the easiest part of the schedule in the rear view that's going to take a major comeback

Kash on paper should be an upgrade over Burton, but Ted hit .300 for most of the year and was in the middle of the order all season.

Kash has been picking it up lately but he's barely hitting .250 with only a handful of HRs which was what he was known for coming out of Tech.

Replacing Appel was a huge task and unfortunately we don't have anyone close to him behind the plate or in the batters box.

Losing Montgomery, Appel and Burton was a big deal.

And Aschenbeck and Cortez.

Then Sdao and Grahovac, with no games played by Sorrell.

There's a lot missing from last season.

I think a lot of us (myself included) just assumed the transfers we got would be even better players than they were at their previous stops. That was a staple of the previous 3 seasons, taking transfers from smaller time programs (outside of Braden) and having them put up even better numbers in our system. I gave a lot of that credit to Earley, and he probably does deserve a good bit of it, but something is fundamentally off this year (obviously).

None of that explains why our offense is so ****ing horrendous against anyone with a pulse. That's the infuriating part.

Tennessee lost a lot too and they are still rolling and look maybe even better than last year.

Our main issue is (besides Hensler, Kent and Kiel)… everybody is very inconsistent offensively. Jace and Schott are having a down year… Kash hasn't found it yet either and the catcher spot is a black hole in the lineup. None of those 4 guys have anything to do with Gavin/Caden being out.

Kash is the headscratcher

2 HR's in 61 at-bats thru 18 games -- hitting in the middle of the order

both homers were in blowout wins (vs. Rice and NMSt)

where's the guy that hit 41 homers the past 2 seasons -- was it all the west Texas wind?

Yeah, that's why we tried to hire their coach.

Kent is upgrade over Camarillo.
Hensler is scratch vs Grahovic
Kash is an upgrade over Burton
Kiel is major upgrade vs Chestnut
LaViolet hurt in Omaha vs LaViolet now is probably a wash

Galloway major fall off from Appel
(why we couldn't recruit a better catcher is beyond me. Hey want to play for title contender everyone is back).
Farr is about as good as Kent was during the season at 2B but a fall off from Kent at the WS.
George is a fall off from Sorrell.

Biggest fall off is in the head coach and pitching coach positions. Check the guys record out in Austin if you don't believe me.

The results on the field disagree with you on several of your comparisons.

another comparison...

last year's team scored 18 runs in its opening conference series at Florida (CWS team)

so far the Ags have scored a total of 6 runs vs. Bama...with 1 more game to go

So just keep going 10-8 a couple of more times. I'd be surprised if A&M doesn't manage that with as much talent is on the team. Players won't stay slumping.

10-8 stretches against the hardest sec schedule we've had in years. My worry is not the slumping, it's the finding new ways to lose every time. Until they rack up a few wins in a row against quality opponents I don't see that trend changing.

1-8 were a threat to hit to a gap or clear the fence last season. We're realistically in 'manufacture runs' territory after the 4th batter in the current lineup. (And that's including Kash, who isn't on track to have double digit home runs)

Last year's team won 19 games where the opposition scored 5 or more runs. This year's team has won 2 so far, and they were both against Elon.

We're hearing a lot about launch angle and exit speed for a team that is on track to slug/homer at a significantly lower rate than last year's team. We're slugging a full 100 points lower than last year's club. We haven't had the slugging potential to shake off the departure of those players, or even just Grahovac or Sorrell this season.

Montgomery hit .322 with 27 home runs
Grahovac hit .298 with 23 home runs
Appel hit .331 with 10 home runs
Sorrell hit .275 with 11 home runs. He slugged .555, which would be good for 3rd on our current team.
Burton hit .284 with 9 home runs and a .438 OBP

For reference, the last Childress team hit .260 as a team. We're at .264 heading into SEC play after a non-conference schedule that included 9 games against Elon, Cal Poly, and New Mexico State.
