I think he probably is but it's not necessarily a bad thing. Some of my closest friends are *******s.
Side note: I wonder if we ever really tried to poach Pennington from DBU to be our associate HC and pitching coach. Would've been cool to have him back.

I'll take his energy any day over that snake. In fact, watching their interaction then listening to an interview with Vitello where he never mentioned snake, told me all I really needed to know.
Not guaranteeing he wouldn't come to A&M, but I doubt it. He is setting all kinds of records in Knoxville and is being handsomely rewarded. He also has a roster which is playing well together and just swept #6 Florida. I would think if there are no injury bug hits this season, Tennessee is likely back in Omaha.

He listened to our offer but politely declined. I think last year would have been our best chance to get him. Unless Tennessee does something stupid to piss him off, I think that ship has sailed.

Thanks. I won't lie, I'm biased towards Earley. He's a high character dude and I think he can be a great coach. He doesn't give me the ick vibes like POS did every time I met him.
I know some people don't care about that at all but I still think it's important.
It's not like he's not changing things. We're shaking up the lineup and moving people around. We aren't going to change to a small ball school. I just don't see it. I do wish we'd take a little more of whatever the pitcher is giving though.

Yeah, yeah. I meant as the head guy. Looks like we kept him around despite no head coaching experience to keep the players happy. Early (no pun intended) returns are not good.

I guarantee you that some on this board will somehow think that if we win a couple games in conference that will somehow justify keeping Earley on longer. The reality of it is that if he doesn't at least make the post season, then no recruit will see him as a long tenured coach no matter how much nil we have. So the prudent thing to do is start over with someone new. He has to turn it around now, or it's basically over for his tenure here. It's just a question of whether we are dumb enough to let him work through his growing pains before we let him go.
Earley does seem like a good man which makes me really hope they can figure something out and reverse course just as fast as they have gotten in this funk. This is a really tough business.

Tough lesson for young kids but they did it to themselves when they played hard ball with the ad rather than just taking their NIL $$ and playing ball.

I agree with all of this. I love Earley as a person. Love the approach we have had at the plate for the last 3 years. Thought this would work. A man of character does matter. And I wanted Earley to be the head man.
But there are men of character that have experience being the head man before. And I think I was being emotional about hiring wanting to hire a brand new head coach.

Believe it or not, almost every team has injuries every year and great ones have the next man up and overcome them (like we did last year)
if you weren't willing to live through the pain of "on the job training" for a few years, then you should have hired an old successful experienced coach. Remember, Elko and Earley are saving us a lot of money. Neither one was or is a hot commodity.
If players ain't performing, not much you can do. The big NIL money spent can tie the coach's hands so to speak. The consortium says we got big money tied up with A,B,C,etc, you play them or the program will never see another dime.
To borrow from Bull Durham lollygagger scene, "this is a simple game, you throw the ball, you hit the ball, you catch the ball". To be sure, we ain't doing the second part well at all. That's on the players.

I would be shocked if Earley doesn't get 2 years. Not that a second year like this one will matter, but when has A&M EVER fired a coach in a non-revenue sport after 1 year?
