If Bama makes it to Omaha he would almost certainly be getting a massive raise regardless. Ideal scenario would be for them to host and then get bounced in their regional or SR so he would still have time to attack the portal as the A&M HC.

All of this is just wild speculation at this point though, but I would hope Trev is already working the back channels just in case this season doesn't get turned around.

Yep. He was an a-hole...but he was *OUR* a-hole.

The same was true for Sumlin's lifestyle and BCG's lifestyle and so on and so on. As long as a coach is winning at your school, no one at your school cares. But when he or she leaves or he or she stops winning games, then all of a sudden the "I only want to win with integrity" crowd comes crawling out of the woodwork.

Oh...the powers that be looked into it. They just turned a blind eye to it because he was a proven winner. Again, this stuff only becomes an issue if the coach leaves or stops winning.

That's not exactly true.

When the replacement talk started getting serious, people started looking at candidates. One of the questions surrounding Schlossnagle was why he would leave TCU. Public records showed he was going through a divorce, and that was certainly discussed. I think we even discussed why he was not hired at Mississippi State when they were forced to replace Andy Canizarro, and his personal life was discussed as a factor (albeit not in exactly the same terms as we heard when he left College Station).

You can go back to the 1950s when A&M had a football coach resign after getting beat up by the husband of a woman he was alleged to have had an affair with. Personal lives of coaches do get brought up, but its very true that you put up with a lot more from someone who wins than someone who loses.

Rob Vaughn has ties to A&M with his dad, but he also has ties to Earley. He may actually deny the job just because he doesn't want to get Earley fired or something like that. They played minor league together and are good friends.

Our athletic department has major major issues if we make decisions based on who is friends with who in the coaching world. You should have a list of at least 5 candidates who are better fits then Earley

If Earley gets fired then that part of the equation is over. If Vaughn doesn't take the job not to hurt Earley's feelings because he just got fired then Vaughn's not who we want. I don't think this is a concern.

I mean never say never. But!!! In this case, Heefner is pretty close to never. If Heefner was gettable, he would have been hired. He's been my #1 choice for a while, since Regional Rob was here.

Heefner has free reign to speak about his faith and make Christian ethics a core principle in his coaching style. He would never be granted that freedom at a state university. That is why he is never leaving.

Neither of those coaches are mobile even if we have an opening. Different reasons for each. The reason for Heefner is elaborated above. I don't believe O'Connor would depart his current job after that many years. He will retire there.

UTSA's coach is really good tho, I haven't really done the research to see who all is out there. I wouldn't be surprised if Earley gets one more year assuming he wins some sec games.

Was it worth it? His team still lost and will not be in the dugout this weekend when they face #9 OU. I also like a coach that fights for his team but I hope he is level headed enough where his actions won't put them in a bad situation in later games. Excellent coaches have won Nattiys without being fiery.

Ya, I wouldn't be surprised if the plan is to give Earley another year still, we still have a ways to go and he's a well liked dude. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a list though. I still think you need to see how the team looks down the stretch.

Ideally you never fire a coach for 1 year unless it's so bad to the point of professional negligence.
