I might be overly optimistic, but I actually felt like Prager took a step forward. At least up to the last hr.

He is struggling to hit his spots, but there were flashes tonight especially from the 5th on.

It's still not good enough, but I think better.
I agree. It was 2 steps forward and one step back, but that's better than one step forward and two steps back. He had occasional bad outings last year and always responded.
I will rephrase it what I see is the difference and I may be wrong is his velocity.

It has dipped to 86-89 instead of 90-92 consistently living at 91. When he comes back with the high fastball after the change up and offspeed last year and earlier this season he'd get it by the hitters. Now its getting fouled off and the hitters is able to work the count to get the pitch they can handle by being able to foul off the high fb.

Just my thoughts but the kid battled his ass off last night and almost got through 6 but personally I wouldve pulled him after 5 up 2.

Prager seems off...

  • Not sure if mentally in it (due to poor start of the team)
  • Pressure to win the opening game of a series (due to be in the proverbial hole the team has fallen into) - pressing for the perfect pitches.
  • Uncertain if he'll get the run support needed (or used to in the past season)
  • Minor injury he's not sharing (working thru minor injury that's he's toughing it out)
  • Not meshing w new pitching coach, etc.

I think he's not our #1 rotation guy at the moment, but has been pointed out that he's still top 3 guy in rotation and truly doesn't matter if game 1, 2 or 3 of a wkend series (esp. if facing big bats).

Do wonder if team gets hot and can start taking 1st 2 games each series (tall, tall order) and he was pitching 3rd game would relieve some pressrue (i.e., cruise control to sweep a series even if the lineups are the same by opposing team).

so the delta between his fastball and change-up has shrunk

this is what hurt Wacha in the bigs for a while until he fixed it a couple of years ago

i.e. got the spread back to 8 to 10 mph

Of course, I have to go back to this! And hopefully you see this again and again! Sorrell with the game winning opposite field barrelled monster! Sorry Gamecocks...NOT.

Bear is been freaking huge, too. Royo struggled a bit. My biggest concern is actual Kent. He looks a bit lost, almost like Binderup (who was great today).

Lets get the sweep and clean it up. Zero reason we should have been in extra innings vs the Gamecocks.

GigEm!!
On Kent, the law of averages is just evening out. He's had one great month in 3 years as an Aggie. What we saw from him last post season was just a heater. He's not going to hit .300+ in a full season.
Kent's problem is the pressure he puts on himself to perform. He overswings and gets too aggressive in the box. He needs to relax. Honestly, I'd lock him out of the cages for a day or two.

I want whatever your on.

Sorrell has not seen live pitching in two months. You think he is just going to stroll into the box and be an All SEC OF?

Also you don't think he is going to feel pressure to perform with the droves of Aggies clamoring for his return as if he is the savior for this baseball season?

You may want to tamper expectations. The team still made 4 errors in the game last night. They won't beat good teams that way.

How long until Sorrell is able to contribute in the box?

I am glad I am wrong.

But really, your expectation is that guys who come back after injury for 2 months just go back to being super a star. How much longer you think he is going to hit over 0.400? Is your expectation that he will continue on this pace and finish the regular season with 20hrs. I hope your right but good luck with that.

Thank God! Kent's should be hall of fame MLB dad and A&M's multi-million dollar coaching staff are probably so thankful that a message board poster with literally zero athletic skins on the wall has solved the problem!

I just checked. Apparently the statute of limitations to blue star the OP hasn't expired.

I didn't say I expected that. I didn't make a definitive statement about future events I can't affect in any way. I also didn't mock someone for having a positive outlook. Every season has players come out of the gate hot and others come out cold. There is no way to know which it will be.

I hope he stays hot for the whole season, but it's baseball, so he'll probably have some cold streaks. No way in hell will I make a definitive statement of what he will do.

You started the chat with Sorrell this team will get back in the playoffs. That sounds pretty definitive to me.

Then reposted on my comment on how long till he gets hot. You must have a different definition of mocking someone than I do.

I did question your statement about one man changing an 0-9 team to a playoff team. In my opinion I don't think it happens very often and had no reason to believe why Sorell after 2 months would change this team.

I hope Sorell stays hot as well and I hope it comtinues.

LOL

I am not the OP.

If you made the bolded statement in your first post in this thread, I wouldn't have mocked you. You left yourself open when you said the OP was on drugs and said that's not happening. I view mocking people for being positive differently than for being negative.
