Long story, but basically we hired an inexperienced coach to field a competitive team in the most difficult conference in the country all while maintaining a system
he had no hand in building…. we are getting what would be the likely result of such a bone headed decision.

….. and now we suck and are the worst team in the SEC

O'Sullivan is having a tough go of it and he is one of the elites.

This team doesn't pitch when they need to pitch. They don't hit when they need to hit. And they are well below average defensively. Throw in several huge base running blunders and we are a complete team

Unfortunately I told my family that if they dont win the Kentucky series then we will no longer plan any activities around A&M baseball.

And yes, watching Game 3 in the top of 8th. This team looks almost exactly like my 12U AA select team's play. Our kids made the same stupid ass mistakes. You know it is trouble when I have to compare A&Ms play against a team of 5th, 6th and 7th graders. But that is the reality of the situation.

Earley is cooked early in his HC career. The rebuild after this season will be epic. Wonder if a single player stays....

Blame coaching all you want, but the players aint exactly showing elite skill. Tons of errors. Insane amount of SO's, lazy at the plate, beat dog attitude, bad fielder decisions, chasing pitches. It's like these kids are trying to relearn how to play. That and after 1-4, the batting order jumps off a damn cliff.

Many of those issues are a reflection on coaching

So all the players decided to stink all together at the same time??

Come on the only constant variable here is a new coach who is in over his head

I have seen this comment a few times now. I guess I should expect it, but always find it interesting that people are passionate about Aggie sports as long as we are winning. Do people just quit everything when it isn't going their way? I don't like what is going on in a few of our sports, but I haven't let my season tickets go, stopped watching or stop supporting our teams. Maybe I look at being an Aggie different than some, but just don't understand the fair weather attitude.

So, who would you have hired? There were discussions with Vitello for a big money deal, but he ended up staying in Knoxville. I think Vitello entertained the prospect because: (1) he hates Schloss; (2) he probably has another move in him; and (3) he figured he had a chance of holding some of our talent. When he passed on it. I don't think any other big name coach felt good about what kind of roster could be assembled for this year, or leaving the guys who had just committed to them in the portal.

The timing as just awful, and frankly, unprecedented (I don't think we've ever had a CWS finalist coach leave after the series, and certainly not in the portal era) It was either make a short term gamble on Earley, or end up hiring an unproven coach who you knew would not have a good roster this year, so it would be a long term project.

Agree 100% on all of this. A&M was put in a very ****ty position by POS and drunk CDC - they knew exactly what they were doing and what it would do to our baseball program. We had a load of talent and the concern was that we'd end up not only losing our coach but our players as well. The coach certainly wasn't coming back, so we had to determine what needed to happen to keep the players here. A big name like Coach V would have certainly done the trick. Unfortunately, he turned us down. It is what it is. Then our players, led by the best player on the team, came out in support of Earley. We had to make a decision and we chose to take a chance on a young, inexperienced head coach.

We took our shot and it's not working (yet) and there is little faith it will turn around. Let the season play out, see what happens and decide then if we need to hire someone else. Personally, I think we need to start now putting out feelers and forming a list of coaches to approach should we fire Earley.

I agree. There is enough blame to go around but at some point the players should have enough pride to put forth better effort. I blame players more. Zero leadership. Coach can't make some of them become leaders. All the leadership left and we have a bunch of followers.
