If the forecast in Knoxville stays the same as it has been for the last couple of days, I sort of expect them to announce a double header for Saturday sometime today. The Sunday game is scheduled for ESPN2, but it's really supposed to set in and rain most of the day on Sunday.

Supposed to rain today and tomorrow in Fayetteville and then maybe snow Sunday morning. That's more or less the same forecast we have in Columbia, MO. I'm guessing Mizzou and Arky will play two very cold 7 inning games on Sunday (forecast high in the mid 40s).

The point is pitch count is an incomplete metric at best, and probably a poor metric too. The pitch volume is way down yet the injuries are up. For 50+ years, starters in the MLB routinely threw more than 300 innings in a season, and now no one reaches even 200. Why?

I am not a doctor, but it seems the prevailing wisdom is that the change to max effort pitch style (focusing o max velo and spin rate) are the drivers for the huge spike in injury.

Maybe so. But logic would say if you are throwing more pitches with more spin and velocity that injuries would increase.

I guess they should "pace" themselves better? Think that ship has sailed.

thanks. a very helpful thread. Your complete and concise display of the weekend series scores fixes a problem I have with the ESPN/SEC webpage and for that matter, most college baseball pages:

1. Games scores are given for each day. If you want to know how the series is going, you have to look at each day's scores. Look at Thursday, just in case, then look at Friday, then ...
2. If you are using Firefox, like I am, the box score lineups are upside down and they consider that to be my fault. There are also some special characters being misinterpreted in the scoring summary.

first series win in Knoxville in 10 years

This weekend in Norman was one of the most impressive performances I've ever seen from an LSU pitching staff. 0 earned runs allowed in 27 innings from only 5 pitchers on the road against a good team. Can't ever recall us giving up 0 earned runs in an SEC series before.

Losing the Texas series hurt, but I think Jay learned some useful lessons from that about how to best arrange our arms. In hindsight, he would have brought Casan Evans into Game 2 to shut down Texas when we had the lead. We just need a couple more arms to step up and this LSU team has no weaknesses, really.


I'm shocked how bad Florida is doing. Y'all got a huge series win today.
