I think we go 7-2. Losses to ark and LSU. Sweep Texas.
I'll have what you're smoking.
7-2 gets Earley a 15 year extension.

You don't think we'll win any games against LSU at home? I can't see us that.

Yeah, I read that wrong…

I think tu gets the sweep but that what I thought about the ut series. If we get blanked in Austin the lsu is 1 of 3. We are such an emotional team right now, but leaders are showing up and stepping up… so it certainly gives us some confidence

historically the Ags are really, really terrible in Austin

Disch-Falk field opened in 1975

A&M has only won 1 series there in 1978

(and a pseudo-series in 1999)

I'm obviously not in the dugout with the guys but I will be VERY interested to see how that Friday night game in Austin starts mentally for them. I'm sure they have had that circled since POS left and hopefully they don't let the moment overcome them. I think it'll be telling early on if every guy is going up there trying to hit it 500 feet

During the SWC, didn't we play them 2 at Disch, 1 at Olsen then flip that the next season every 2 years? So at least until 96 we didn't play 3 game series there?

We did that until we joined the SEC. Growing up in CS it was always so much fun to go to the Friday night game at Olsen and then follow along radio for Saturday/Sunday and vice versa

14 SEC wins is the Lock number for an NCAAT bid
13 SEC wins is a maybe, especially if 6 of those are vs SCe and hapless Mizzou.

Winning 3 of our next 9 puts us at 9-15 going into final 6 (Mizzou, @UGA) and we would have to win 5 of those 6 to be a lock.

Winning 4 of next 9 has us "only" needing 1 win in Athens if we sweep Mizzou.

Winning 5 of next nine then sweeping Mizzou locks it no matter what happens in Athens.

Our lack of an Aschenbeck or Stewart sort of bullpen arm will make it extremely difficult to win more than 4 of our next 5. But that's why games aren't played on paper.

The series started to be split in 1993. In '91, the Ags swept t.u. at Olsen. In '92 Arkansas was gone, so the league played a 36 game conference schedule with 6 games against each team (t.u. won both series 2-1 that season). In '93, A&M, Baylor, and t.u. agreed to split the series, and it went back to an 18 game conference schedule. In '94, A&M went 6-12 and didn't make the SWC tournament. Realizing that 18 games wasn't enough, the league went to 4 game conference series in '95. Those were fun, but this was the beginning of gorilla ball, and you can imagine what the scores looked like when you played 4 games in 3 days with Johnny Fullstaff pitching half of the series. In 1996, the split series continued as did the 4 game series. However, in both 1995 and 1996, the league alleviated some of the stress on the 4 game series by holding a 3 game tournament in Houston. Both seasons, A&M, t.u., and Baylor played one of their games in this tourney, so the split series could be 2-1 during the regular conference schedule. The split series continued after the Big 12 started in 1997.

yes

perhaps another way to say it...

1978 and 1999 are the only 2 seasons in which A&M won 2 games in Austin

(excluding any SWC tournament games)

Historically we are terrible at Arkansas and they are a beast this year, 1-2 is a win there.

The series in Austin is a wild card because of the storylines that are obviously going to be at play…I think our boys are up to the task against their former coach that left them and go 2-1

The LSU series since we have joined the SEC has not seen a sweep by either team, I'll say 1-2

Possibly flip the record in Austin and at home against LSU so either way I'll say 4-5.

10-14 going into the last two series against Mizzou and Georgia needing 3 total wins to get to 13 which most believe gets you in, especially with a win or two in the conference tourney
Just tell Arky it is a Regional and we win easily.

Dad's like, "I'd be in the HoF if coach had let me bat left-handed."

Seriously, while Kent has a strong HoF case at 2B, he's been respected 10x more than Buddy Bell at 3B, who received only 8 votes in the only year on the ballot.

Yep, this right here. We have 15 chances to get there and basically need to play .500 ball.

  • 5 or fewer wins -- we're out
  • 6 wins -- highly highly probable we're out, but new 16 team SEC and bid stealers could come into play...
  • 7 wins -- we'll be sweating profusely on selection Sunday. 50/50 odds but same note as above.
  • 8+ wins -- in like Flint!

@Arkansas 1-2
@Texas 1-2
LSU 2-1

I would like 5-4 or better, but I am predicting 4-5 to get to 10-14 SEC before playing Missouri and Georgia. A home sweep of Missouri and winning 2 of 3 road games at Georgia would get us to a 15-15 SEC finish.

Arky result will define how we finish the season. If we go 2-1 (what I believe we will do) then the momentum is huge and we win one of the two remaining series (both is possible). If we go 1-2 vs pig then I don't see us going .500 for the balance of the season. Not that the team gives up, but if we are out of the picture we may start playing for next season rather than for wins.

1-2 v Arkie isn't even close to out of the picture.

It's cliche, but it is so for a reason. One game at a time. One series at a time.

We've got to find a way to 7 or 8 wins over the back half of the season. I don't think it matters one bit where those 7 or 8 come from, given 4 of the 5 series are versus current RPI top 10 teams.

If we go less than .500 over the next three series then we are. Just commenting on the potential impact to our new found momentum found momentum which may be at its most vulnerable.

Over.

We take 2 of 3 Ark.
We take 3 of 3 Texas. Call me freaking crazy.
We go 1 of 3 with LSU.

I'm saying 6. I'm saying 5 worse-case. And yes, homer predictions but we need some serious optimism and I love where this team is beginning to trend.

Here's the deal with Texas. They CANNOT keep up with our offense. If we can get to their pitchers, the series is over.

If you're suggesting we go 4-5 over the next three series, our boys will fold up shop, I strongly disagree. 4-5 puts us solidly in play for the tournament. Tons to play for.

We're on two different wavelengths here. I never suggested the players would quit. If you followed the season closely enough on the game threads I've been one of their biggest advocates. I don't think you're following what I'm saying. All good, was just forum chatter.

I am worried about Prager vs the snakes. Weiner & Prager really meshed and developed an identity of what works for Ryan and you can tell by how much he shakes off pitches this year. I think their lineup will have his number, but still have to put good swings on it.

I was thinking this but with tu.

If we get atleast 2 of 3 from tu then I think this team will drop the monkey off its back for the rest of the season and play lights out the rest of the way and coasts easily into the tourney.

If we end up 1-2 or wose against sip, its likely the emotional dagger and we limp through the rest of the season and likely miss postseason play.
