College Station grown.

Southeastern Conference known.

On Monday, Texas A&M first baseman Blake Binderup was named the SEC’s Player of the Week following his performances at Sam Houston and during the Aggies’ three-game sweep of South Carolina.

Debuting some mechanical adjustments to his swing, the redshirt sophomore went 7-for-13 with 10 RBIs, two doubles and a pair of home runs.

“I've widened out, kind of off-set now. Kind of like Giancarlo Stanton a little bit,” Binderup said on Thursday night. “We kind of implemented that yesterday in the cages, so we went out in the game today, and it seemed to work. I'll probably stick with it.”

Smart.

Binderup’s week started with a two-run double in Huntsville on Tuesday as the Aggies rolled the Bearkats 14-1 in seven innings.

His 1-for-4 showing vs. SHSU was just a glimpse of what was to come.

In Thursday’s series opener vs. the Gamecocks, the “Boogeyman” launched a third-inning grand slam that took the Aggies from trailing by a run to leading 6-3. Binderup then added an RBI double to make it 7-5 in the fifth. A&M would not score again until Caden Sorrell’s walk-off homer in the 10th as Olsen Magic arrived for the first time all year.

“The season hasn't gone how I've wanted it to be, but I put my head down every day and go to work, and good things tend to happen,” Binderup said. “Put me in the game. I'm ready. I'll just keep doing that.

“It just felt awesome running around the bases and seeing everyone hyped up, and once I got home, seeing my boys over there, it's pretty special.”

His lone RBI on Friday came via a fourth-inning sacrifice fly as the Aggies embarrassed South Carolina in seven innings, 17-0. That wasn’t Binderup’s only contribution, as he finished 1-for-2 with a walk.

Then came Saturday’s historic comeback.

At 6-foot-6 and 230 pounds, the big man’s fingerprints were all over the box score as he enjoyed a 3-for-3 afternoon that included an intentional walk, a hit-by-pitch and a stolen base.

Yet Binderup’s biggest swing of the afternoon was a seventh-inning two-run shot down the left field line that trimmed the deficit to 12-5.

When Kaeden Kent stepped into the batter’s box to provide the most magical moment of the year, the Aggieland native stood in the on-deck circle.

On the year, Binderup is hitting .215 with a .446 slugging percentage and four home runs in just 26 games.

This is the first SEC weekly honor of his career.

Not bad for a Little Leaguer with no business in D1 ball.

I hope we see lots more of Blake Barrel-up.
