On 3 Posted this article, titled "Mississippi State to hire Virginia's Brian O'Connor as head baseball coach" then immediately took it down.

It was posted 26 minutes ago, and now it's gone, but you can still see it if you google "O Connor MS State"

The description on Google says "Brian O'Connor is set to become the next head baseball coach at Mississippi State, according to On3's Pete Nakos."

Vitello would be borderline erotic. Canham would be great. Vaughn would be solid. Skip would be ok.

Plenty of options left, including coaches not being talked about much yet.

Vitello would be borderline erotic. Canham would be great. Vaughn would be solid. Skip would be ok.

Plenty of options left, including coaches not being talked about much yet.

For what it's worth, the article no longer shows up on google. As a matter of fact, this TexAgs post took its place. Maybe Nakos writes these things early and an intern hit publish.

Alternatively, I'll wake up in the morning and it'll be done.

No doubt Vitello is a heckuva coach, but I'm not sure I've ever seen a coach whine so much! I've only seen maybe 5 or 6 Tennessee games with him as coach and every single game he's out there complaining and whining and even got ejected one of those games I saw. I think there is a time and a place to make sure the umpires hear you, but he does it way too often. I guess I'd still take him as our coach. Haaaa!

Just like we were happy when Schloss was our A hole, I would be thrilled if TV was our cry baby.

Unless we passed on O'Connor, if MSU lands him, not a good look for us. I love the potential upside of Vaughn but not sure how you pass on O'Connor given his accolades. Question is, does he still have the internal fire for more and want to be #1 in SEC? Or simply take the big check and retire in 3-4 years.

I doubt that's it. State most likely has been working with him since they fired their coach or maybe even prior. Thus the reason they went ahead and fired their coach at that time, once they knew they had O' Connor on board.

If we are trying to now get in on hiring him we most likely are at a disadvantage.

There aren't many schools that can win a hiring battle against MSU in baseball. Especially when they had a head start on him.

It was actually 10 years ago. But he's been to the CWS I believe 3 years in a row prior to this past season.

Your post made me think of one of the potential drawbacks for State making the move now. O'Connor will want to hire assistants and get to recruiting, but as long as State is playing in the tournament, I'm not sure if they can double up on assistants. If O'Connor is taking assistants with him from UVA, he probably doesn't want them to miss paychecks while State is working its way through the tournament. So, this could be a minor dillemma for State on timing.

It is an interesting situation and if they have success in the tournament like when Bill Frieder left Michigan for AZst prior to the NCAA basketball tournament and Steve Fisher led them to the title.
