So we have:
1 independent
1 Sun Belt
1 Big 12
1 ACC
1 Big 10
1 Missouri Valley
2 SEC

And if we group the former PAC schools, it's 3 PAC, 1 ACC, 2 SEC, 1 SBC, 1 MVC.

Who knew all it would take for the PAC to get back to dominance was to break up?

UCLA looks pretty legit.

I agree. Murray can beat them but I believe UCLA could win it all. I'm not sure who the favorite is in this field.

Just one last thing from me.

I'm glad another school with plastic grass and plastic dirt lost at home.

It's just not so hard to grow grass in NC.

I think they got it right. Second baseman needs to be moving and turning to make the play, not staying on the bag.
Not sure you watched the play. 2B stepped off the bag, out of the running lane and was in the process of making the throw. Both of his feet were inside of the lane (on the 3rd base side of the bag) when he was taken out.

In any event, is this REALLY the intent of replay- to substitute a committee's judgment for an umpire's judgment when it it is a JUDGMENT call where the umpire is is not misapplying a rule, and the replays are too close for a definitive answer.

Any good umpire can reasonably make the call he did- we should let those stand. If Duke came back and won that game, it would have been a damn shame.

We can agree to disagree. He's standing on the bag flat footed when he catches the ball. He does move a little but he needs to be jumping off second with his toe staying on the bag until caught and twisting and moving toward the throw prior to making the catch actually if he's going to try and turn two. It's the way it's taught in practice to avoid exactly what took place. But he was flat footed not moving at all when he caught the ball probably focused on getting the first out and then tried getting two after the fact but bad footwork. And as the announcer stated over and over, the slider goes right over the bag which he has the right.

2B was not out of the running lane… they eventually got it right, replay worked… On the initial, the ump saw 2B take a hard fall so automatically thought there was an issue (which was not the case)… much like football, ref sees a hard hit so automatically assumes defender did something wrong… they eventually got the call correct last night.

You were right the first time, he definitely uses AI to generate his posts.

For reference, heres my ChatGPT generated posts about how weell murray state is doing. Sounds exactly like IraqiBot.

Murray State is having a historic season. They went 4214, won the Missouri Valley regular season and tournament titles, and are heading to Omaha for the first time ever.

They upset Ole Miss and Georgia Tech as a #4 seed in the Oxford Regional, then beat Duke in the Supers. Their offense ranks among the best in the nation leading in walks and on-base % and their pitching has stepped up when it counts.

Dan Skirka has this team believing. Total Cinderella story, but they've proven they belong.

I have no problem with the call and the overturning of the call. Good example of replay working.

good points, LB12. I can see it both ways. I guess it boils fown to the intent of the rule and why it's there.

There's no doubt it was a dangerous play and an intentional act to take out the 2B.

The question is not did the 2B contribute or "cause" it by not doing something he should have.

Baseball rules do NOT require anything of the fielder to avoid the runner. But if he stands on the bag and the runner makes a "normal" (my words) slide, the fielder puts himself at risk of being run into without penalty.

I believe the deciding thing was how unnaturally "inside" the bag was the leading leg which was nowhere close to making contact with the bag. His butt went over the bag and the left leading leg was used like a jousting pole. If your intent was to be safe on 2nd, you don't have your leading leg two feet in the air so that your trail leg under your butt touches first. It was easy imo to determine that that the intent was not to gain the base but to take out the fielder and prevent the DP.

I believe the rule has ALWAYS BEEN that if there is an intent to take out the baseman (to interfere with the fielder's ability to complete a play), the runner and batter are out. Baseball does not purposely give a FREE PASS to the runner. Intent is determined from all factors of the slide of the runner. There is no doubt this runner was sliding in a manner designed to take out the fielder, in a slide that would not have occurred IN THAT MANNER unless that was the intent. THAT is the bottom line- the field ump got it right and the IR committee wimped out under the pressure of eliminating a team from the World Series on a judgment call.

This is how favorite players are made. I looked him up. He went to CSUN like Ali Camarillo! But it looks like they missed playing together by just one year.

With Chris Pollard seemingly leaving Duke for the Virginia job, I wonder if Cliff Godwin will finally get his chance at an ACC or SEC job. He's been in Greenville forever, and he always seems to get interest for big jobs without the final offer. We'll see how serious Duke is about staying good at baseball. No reason they can't maintain Pollard's success with the right hire.

Supposedly our assistant coach Josh Jordan is a main candidate for the Duke opening. He was at Duke for a while before coming to LSU. It would be frustrating to lose yet another good assistant coach off Jay's staff, and for the fourth year in a row. On the other hand, it speaks to Jay's ability to attract quality assistants, so I'm sure we can replace him with someone good if Jordan understandably takes the Duke job. I'll miss his crazy sends from third base, like Hernandez against y'all.

Would the NIL understand Murray State's pure love for the game of Baseball? H*ll no! Here we have a program, that for most of the Baseball Nation, has a field no better than a high school. We also have a college Head Coach that mows the field that his players compete on. Can this be possible in 2025 where seven figures are the norm for Head Coach's salaries.

Some would say that this MCWS is different this year, and I would say that yes, it is different indeed. Perhaps, this is the last year that we will be privileged to see what "The Love of the Game" truly looks like. A team from a mid-conference, with a small field that is mowed by the HC.

I believe that we will see young men that love the game of baseball, and can really play ball go against the Goliaths of the sport and have all the odds against them.
As a purist, I hope they succeed, but regardless, they have given all of us a true "RIDE". BTHO of everyone, Murray State.

That doesn't happen in football. There's no assumption. Fans THINK things like that happen, but they don't. A lot of the hard hits, as you say, come from an offensive player and many of the hits from any position are legal. There are hundreds of hard hits in every game, 9th grade B team and up. Even a few jr. high games. (Not a lot of hitting in C team and jr. high B team games).
