You only have to look at the park where Duke was playing to understand why Pollard left. Duke treats baseball as an afterthought.
I saw someone post a pic of Murray State's field on twitter and say something like "Murray State is going to the college world series and here's a pic of their stadium that only holds 800 people."

Looked better than Duke's stadium.
Saw that too. At least it has grass (which the coach cuts).

Oh...I hear you. Happens all the time. But that doesn't mean I have to like it.

I've been in the professional sector for over 30 years now and I've had employees come and go. I get that folks are always going to look for the next bigger, better opportunity. I've supported employees countless times as they've sought (alleged) greener pastures. But the instant they were not giving me their 100% attention and 100% best effort, I cut them loose. The organization is always bigger than one employee, regardless of where that employee is in the organization. I feel the same way with coaches. If you know your guy is leaving...go ahead and send him on his way. If he's going to leave you...and his mind is already fully engaged with his next opportunity...you owe him nothing. Cut ties and start building for the future.

If we had cut Schloss in April/May last year when he started missing meetings and Trev started suspecting him of wanting to leave, do you think we would have made it to the CWS finals?

Plus, we would have been on the hook for his buyout, whereas when he left of his own accord, t.u. had to pay us.

I'd accept $65,000 a year to cut grass.

If I was being paid a million dollars to coach a baseball team and they asked me to cut grass, I'd be out there with clippers doing it by hand.

If I was being paid 65k to coach a baseball team, I'd find a fifteen year old and pay him in concession stand sodas and a new baseball glove.

WRONG! It seems everything is done through back channels these days. There are ways of finding things out. Privately confront Schloser and try and get a reading on him. If your gut says he is not satisfied here and perhaps dealing with his buddy at tu. Then you go through back channels like tu did. It is not ideal with the season we were having, but not being prepared got us in the position we are in. Posters like you have no reason to whine.

It would have sucked, but I still believe the A&M baseball program as a whole is bigger than just one man (coach, player, or otherwise.) When our previous coach started screwing us - no pun intended - then we owed him or his current employer absolutely nothing. Had we been able to prove in April he was actively recruiting players to Austin, I bet we could have fired him with cause and would have owed him nothing in buyout dollars. Plus, we could have humiliated and exposed our biggest rivals in the process. If nothing else, the Court of Public Opinion would have been 100% on our side...for whatever that's worth.

Dude

We were one game from winning it all. The best finish we have ever had in Baseball. What in the world are you talking about? I mean, I know we make our own Aggie jokes all the time. But blowing the whole thing up in the middle of that run was not going to happen. Thankfully

Oh yea...it would have been unconventional, no doubt about it. Maybe I'm still just bent out of shape at how it all went down...and what we ultimately ended up with once the dust settled.

Texas had to hire the PR firm after everything. Don't forget that one.

I concur with you that A&M baseball deserves better. It's hard to accept the state of affairs right now after where we were last summer. We can get there again; we just need to start making the right moves.

How exactly would torpedoing our season in April have humiliated and exposed Texas? Schlossnagle still would have ended up there and we would have been very unlikely to play our way to Omaha.

If you botched the last job, created lots of excess waste and/or expenditure of funds, cratered co-workers and subcontractors jobs in the process, and ultimately caused lots of negative PR for the company being left…. Yes that's a problem.

And I'm not saying this to be argumentative, I'm speaking from the standpoint of someone not focusing on their current job as they should and having one foot out the door.

Knowing that your parachute and landing spot are pristine no matter what you do the last few days can make for an interesting situation. And I think everyone would be slightly mentally/physically affected by that change that's coming.
