We don't have the pitching staff to beat the better teams this year.

The defensive errors cost us way more games than the pitching and unfortunately coach Ford has made some not smart decisions!!

Brown is obviously not good enough or has crossed Ford in a bad way !

With our pitching you have to score lots of runs. To score lots of runs you have to play your best hitters. Our best hitters may not be our best defense. So as a coach, what do you do?

Keep giving the depth players opportunities to earn a spot by subbing them in towards the end of games? We obviously don't see the practice, but who do you think is better? given all the opportunities at ends of games, I haven't seen a better mix for the infield/outfield. Of course, I'm just watching the games, so maybe there is something that shows up in the analytics that I'm not seeing.

Maybe there is a better option at catcher, but seemed like we had a decent number of passed balls in previous seasons with Coleman.

On a side note, Sauni was grabbing the back of her right leg towards the end of Thursdays game. I'm assuming maybe a cramp because she finished the game Thursday and played a game plus on Friday before swapping in Coleman.

Love your analysis. I thought the outfielders did not respect Louisiana's hitters and were playing way to shallow. Turning and running back is much harder than running forward to make a catch. Absolutely at least 2 or 3 of those outfield hits should have been caught. Freshman catcher, Sauni, has mostly done okay back there but absolutely got intimidated by Louisiana base running and made 2 bad errors. No excuses for Coleman she is a senior and has to know better than to make that throw down to 2nd with a runner on 3rd. That was brutal. Everyone needs to be accountable and they better flush that one and start over fresh today.

This! 100%. The catcher position has become a glaring weakness on both sides of the ball. Hope it gets better, think that's something coaches will be tasked with along with finding a way to improve pitching.

I often mention that we do not see practices so no idea how they perform. Why some start and others do not.

I think Hailey and Scout are good in the outfield but they get few chances at the plate, must less in the OF except end of games. Scout has had 2 AB and Hailey 0 AB. Scout made a great running catch in the top of the 5th (first out, I believe) of Munnerlyn's perfect game. Perhaps their arms are not as strong as the others. Maybe not looking good in batting practice. Several of us penciled in Kelsey to be a starter this year (based on last year's end of year performance) but Paislie has gotten more starts and Kelsey's bat is not like it was at the end of last season. Ariel's (aka AK) and Frankie's bats doing well so far, the best of all of the outfielders. Annsley is really, really fast and this often translates to range but few chances in the OF this year. Had a great bat in HS. Wonder how she is doing in practice in the field and at the plate? No AB's yet AND she HAS made some really bad boo boos on the bases. Probably just Freshman nerves, will have to wait and see.

Catcher is once again a problem. All three have had problems, defensively and at the plate. After an 0-9 start Maddie's hitting slowly improving and she has a ton of power and a good arm but her defense is a negative. Freshman nerves again? All of these catcher problems probably driving the coaches crazy.

Pitching is up and down and right now we are just an average team on the mound. But giving up free bases is not as much of a problem as in the past. This is definitely a plus. Lessentine only 4 walks so far but has gotten hit hard a few times. Overall, though, she can be really effective when she is 'on'. And she is our best right now. I have thought for a couple of weeks that Taylor Brown must not be doing well in practice or she is in Ford's doghouse for some reason. She was outstanding in HS (pitching and hitting) and Gatorade POY twice. If she does not see action in today's games (Kennesaw State and St. Mary's) I really, really have to wonder. I have thought that perhaps Coach has tinkered with her throwing motion, trying to make her better, but it has not worked out and she's not doing well in practice because of it. Imagine being super effective for years with the same motion and then having it changed. Would be very uncomfortable. Just a wild guess since I have no idea what happens in practice.

Hitting also up and down. Sometimes they can go on a tear (last few innings last night a great example) but other times just can't get hits. Hitting .355 as a team and that's pretty darn good but, again, it is sporadic.

Defense is really good at times but others not. Before the season started I listed base running and defense as our strong points but have seen issues with both so far.

I love our aggressive base running and it has been great for the most part the past three years but I think there have been too many iffy calls at third, waving runners around when I did not think the runner had a chance. I would like to see him a bit less aggressive there.

I tend to be an optimist but the problems need to get worked out soon or it will get very tough in a couple of weeks once we start SEC play. Last year we were 16-7 in a tough conference. I think we will have fewer wins this year, overall and in conference. Might not even host a regional. Blasphemy? Sure. But right now a strong possibility.

Little bit of a lineup change with Kelsey Mathis in CF, Frankie Vrazel in RF, and Ariel Kowalewski at catcher. Let's see if this shores up the defense behind the plate and in the outfield.
