Why on earth does UGA have a turf field?

I'll cut Mizzou, UK, and Tennessee some slack because they're all in climates that get cold enough so a grass field would look and play like trash for the first 6+ weeks of the season but there is zero reason for schools with the budget they have and climate that tu & UGA are in to have turf. Pure garbage IMHO.

Baseball belongs on dirt.

Completely agree. And Floey Field was one of my favorites until this blasphemy.

Why the hell does tu have an artificial turf in DKR? It makes no sense in the state of Texas.

It also looks like absolute ***** You'd think they'd spend enough money to make it look better. We know they have it.
I avoid temptation unless I can’t resist it.

I am obviously old being '71 so don't bet your life on my post. I recall the t.u. was one of the first, if not the first, to get Astroturf on their football field. That part is true but I recall the dumb t-sips wanted a lush field for the next season. They should have consulted an Aggie as they allegedly put down significantly heavy fertilizer to the point they ruined the field for the next season.

I heard from an Ag prof that the sips tried to have a perfectly level field at DKR, all others sloped for obvious reasons. Well sure enough the season started and a rain hit and it became a massive kiddie pool because their was no slope. Dont worry, of course they forsaw the possibility of rain, so they put a single 4-in pipe down the middle for drainage. Took hours to remove that water.

Last game of the season that year, field empties, immediately they tore everythihg out.

Used to be they'd (sip) leverage the turf field to pay all or a lot of the UIL state championships at DKR. So it amounts to a free campus visit for all of the top state players.

Bad enough that UIL is head quartered at tu
