What's the minimum we have to do in conference down the stretch to be a national seed?

I'm thinking if we go 5-4 on the road and 4-2 in our final 2 home series? Sound right?

That would be 18-11, I think that would do it

Agree. Georgia was 7 seed last year at 18-12. Auburn was 17-13 and the four seed. That texas sweep will come in handy.

the series vs. Auburn will be very important for the Ags to win

to stay ahead / finish ahead of Auburn in the pecking order

the SEC got 6 of the 8 national seeds a year ago

should get at least 5 this year

UCLA and Georgia Tech are the only non-SEC locks at this point

Why look past UH and LSU?

We need to focus on the game ahead of us that day/week.

Just win and don't worry about "what ifs."

Currently 2nd in the SEC which is always good enough for national seed

Not looking past them, but I know the coaches are having these conversations in the office. Hell, the later we get into district we begin to have these conversations on our staff at school. Obviously we have to take care of the midweek and you prepare to win each of the games in front of you but it's still nice to set a realistic goal because the possibility of going undefeated is always lower than dropping a few. Plus, we are fans so us having these conversations has no impact on the team.

The opportunity is absolutely there in front of us. The series loss to OU wasn't terrible, but certainly wasn't excusable. OU is a good, but not great, team this year. My thoughts:

1. Pitching has to get better and more consistent (duh...) I get that we've had injuries and Sdao has been a wildcard coming off of his surgery, but a decent amount of improvement is needed on the mound.

2. We can't fart around on Tuesdays. The remaining mid-week games are all at home vs. Houston (RPI #104), UTSA (30), Tarleton (66), and PVAMU (299...yuck). Gotta win them all.

3. I think going 8-7 in our last five SEC series should do it...as long as we avoid getting swept along the way. If we in all 4 mid-week games and go 9-6 in SEC play the rest of the way, we'll be at 36-13 overall and 18-11 in league play. A couple of wins in the SEC tourney certainly wouldn't hurt. Our strength of schedule is currently 28th and should be in the teens on selection Monday...even with the Prairie View game on the schedule.

Keep in mind that conference record means less now that schedules are so unbalanced. Who you play within the conference also matters.

Because it's something to talk about. As fans, we don't have anything to do to prepare for UH and LSU, and whether we focus completely on just what's immediately in front of us or think about the bigger picture has no bearing on how the team performs.

I think the LSU series is going to be interesting. I expect them play with a hint of desperation as their post-season hopes are rapidly dwindling. They need this one for their record and their RPI. Looking forward to watching their hopes dwindle further!

That's what the team needs to focus on. Part of the fun of being a fan is talking about the what ifs. It doesn't matter what our focus is. We aren't playing the games.

I've already forgotten last year's postseason since the Ags didn't make it...

but looking it up...

only 3 of the top 8 seeds made it to Omaha

and overall only 5 of the 16 regional hosts made it

Warren Nolan's predictions have us going 7-8 over the final 15 SEC games with an RPI of 17 which would be a host and not a national seed. 9-6 probably gets you comfortably to a national seed.

That's the final record of the '89 team, right?

If we get to 17 SEC wins with our conference schedule I think we're a lock for a top 8. Getting 2 in BR this weekend makes the math a lot easier.

Need to go 9-6 from here on out for a top 8

I think 7-8 to host as a 9 thru 16

And take care of Tuesday business. We don't need to lose to Houston, Tarleton, or Prairie view. A loss to UTSA would not be devastating, but it sure as hell wouldn't help either.

Need to pray for rain, thunder, hail and maybe a tornado alert. Prairie View is currently at 299.....guessing a win vs them is going to cost us at least 50-60 points

Our RPI will get pinged 7 points tonight for our win vs Houston....a loss would have cost us over 100 points. Houston was a Quad 4 win with them sitting at 103. Tarleton St. will be a Quad 3 game.....still need to win it.

We just need to make the PVA&M game a designated road game each year to ease the RPI hit just a little.

National seeds are now 1-16 and have been for a while. The old 1-8 = national seed and 9-16 host is gone.

With that said, we (or others) could host as a 2 but looking at all potential national seeds as of now, I don't see anyone, other than perhaps Kansas or BC, that MIGHT not host. I'm not betting either won't -- especially given geography.

The 16 national seeds will host. The NCAA has put regionals in some pretty small, non-traditional venues recently to ensure the top 16 are at home. UC-Santa Barbara, East Carolina, Indiana State, Georgia Southern, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Louisiana Tech, and Old Dominion have all hosted since COVID.

Any system that punishes you for a win, regardless of who it is over is stupid. Sure don't give any benefit from winning in that scenario but no good system would punish a team for playing a game and winning that game.

Not really. "Top 8" is colloquial. Just means "home field advantage" through the supers
