I don't follow baseball as closely as some of the other sports. For someone who is more knowledgeable than I am, can someone explain why Coach Earley struggled so badly last year with a roster that was stacked, versus this year when he's doing so well and he lost a lot of talent. Was it just the injuries from last year? Or were there other things going on last year. Great to see him doing so well this year.

First year coach, hangover from the previous year, injuries, etc, etc
People think I'm an idiot or something, because all I do is cut lawns for a living.

Lot's of injuries for starters. And Earley also has admitted he tried to be the coach of everything and was too much. Now he focuses on hitting and lets his coaches coach. Has made a world of a difference. Especially since we have our hitting coach back which was a huge reason for our 2024 success.

I think the team pressed last year in many games and that did not allow them to play at their top level. Who knows why but it was pretty obvious at times.

Earley obviously learned some things as well bc his decision making is a lot better.

Thats the primary difference, IMO. Injuries contributed as well.

Caleb longley no longer being on staff certainly helps. He was a good guy but his track record and Texas and us after isn't a great look. We struck out so much more with his approach last year trying to hit more home runs.

Totally agree. And funny thing is everyone has been critical about Earley and the shift and my assumption is since Cliff coaches the infield he's probably the bigger influence. Yet people just like to btch.

Like someone said , it's just baseball. Look at lsu who we just sweep. They were national champs last year and this year not ranked even with the same coach.

I hate the shift regardless of who is calling it.

There were a lot of injuries, and Michael Earley admitted he tried to do too much. Now, he has learned some lessons by letting his assistant coaches do their jobs. We have already surpassed last year's 30 total wins and 11 regular season SEC wins with a 31-7 overall record and 12-5 SEC record, and 10 of our 12 SEC wins were by 3+ runs each. Also, we won our last 7 SEC games (2 Against Vanderbilt, 2 against Texas, and 3 against LSU) by a combined score of 62-24. Hopefully, we can go at least 6-6 in our last 12 SEC games to host a Super Regional.

From a pure baseball standpoint it is mostly because these kids have a plan at the plate. And they try to do what they should do given the situation pitch by pitch. That is BY FAR the biggest difference.

How it changed or why they did what they did in 2025 I have no idea.

This team is every bit as talented as that team was. And that 2025 team lost a lot of the talent it had due to injury.

Have out pitching coach back? Who?

Last year we had a lot of injuries. With Sorrell and Gravin out, we got swept by Alabama and Vanderbilt. Once we got Sorrell back, we were good enough to beat #2 Arkansas, #1 Tennessee, #2 LSU, and play #1 Texas to three very close games.

But without Gravin and a few bullpen arms, we weren't consistent and blew a Friday night game to Mizzou. After that, the team basically quit.

Hoping this team can keep the momentum.

Yeah I was very confused by that as well. Kelly joined when Earley became the HC. Limp Weiner was the pitching coach in 2024 (who followed the liar to tu). There was no change in pitching coach from 2025 to 2026. As mentioned above, maybe they are thinking of Pennington?

It's the Aggie Inversion Principle.

When we are ranked high, maybe too high, we don't do well. When we are underrated, overlooked, we excel.

This is amazing. I don't think even the 2024 team had a two week run more impressive than this.

There are a lot of us that believe Early has the ability to win it all at TAMU and want to keep him here.
