That other thread got me thinking- there's no pod or "permanent rivals" in baseball, right? But is there an understanding at least, that A&M and Texas will play a series against each other every year?

Would be a terrible thing it seems to not plsy a series every year.

I just don't recall this being "officially" a thing.

There are two rivals each team will play every season in baseball. For A&M it is sippie and swamp kitty.

Very weird it's not that way in softball.

Thanks JK! I was thinking about adding LSU to that question. great to know we get both of them, even though it's a tough task.

Baseball yes

Softball no. We will see if softball adopts them. ESPN announcers have called out the league for not having them in softball.

Traditionally the two best teams in the conference.

Good thing there are a lot more games than fooball.

Don't know if it has any effect on it but could it be that only 15 teams play softball and 16 play baseball, 2 permanents across 16 is easier to schedule than 2 across 15. It may not even be a factor, just spitballing here.

I volunteered to have Missouri and Kentucky as our permanent foes, but no dice.
It really is a lopsided arrangement when some teams play Missouri every year and others play LSU.

I wouldn't want it any other way!

We've not have the best of luck against these two teams, Not awful overall but have had some extremely poor series against them. Mizzou in particular could be a thorn in our side especially when you consider they've been normally toward the bottom of SEC standings and at best in the middle.

Sure is fun to sweep our permanent rivals

I knew ours were LSU/Texas but I guess I never looked across the rest of the league. The SEC actually did a really good job with these. Much better than their football permanent rivals.

Pretty remarkable:

Since we joined the SEC, our record is 22-19 against LSU, the most dominant program in college of last 30 years.

It is 11-8 against Texas, the most dominant program historically.

Well then, let's just be one of the traditional best teams in the SEC as well.

I don't think so
My inner math nerd tells me it doesn't make a difference
for example
Team 1 could have 2&3 as rivals
Team 2 could have 3&4 as rival
Etcetera and when it wraps around
Team 14 has 15&1
Team 15 has 1&2

Everybody has 2 rivals

Number of Teams won't matter

Speaking of scheduling and the sips... is there an SEC rule against doing the "split" series like we used to do with the sips? Where one team gets two home games, and the other team gets one. Then it flips the next year.

Or did the two sides just not want to do that anymore now that the sips managed to maneuver their way into the SEC?
jkag89

Please no. Even if allowed there is no other SEC school close enough to also have a split series with and hence one team will get 16 home games and the other 14.within the league.

IMO a midweek game at the school not hosting the SEC series (or at a neutral site with the team that doesn't host the league series as the home team) would be a better option. Unfortunately POS has made this unlively to happen any time soon.
