I posted this in Premium, but Softball doesn't get as much attention there (as it should) ... but curious if anyone has any thoughts/insight ...

Always hoping for the best ... but in the spirit of preparing for the worst ... if, IF, we were to get swept by OU this weekend ..

(We are currently #15 RPI)

1 - Does a sweep knock us out of a Regional Host position (for the time being, knowing the SEC tourney is still to be played)?

2 - If we do get swept, how far do we need to go in the SEC tourney to ensure a top 16 host spot?

3 - If we were to win at least 1 against OU, does that keep us in the 'probable' category to host regardless of the SEC tourney?

4 - Are we somewhat of a lock to be a regional host already, despite the OU series and SEC tourney?

This is my opinion based on my time following Aggie and college softball:

Yes.

2 - If we do get swept, how far do we need to go in the SEC tourney to ensure a top 16 host spot?

Probably to the final, and beating a couple top 10 teams along the way.

3 - If we were to win at least 1 against OU, does that keep us in the 'probable' category to host regardless of the SEC tourney?

I don't know if I'd go so far as saying "probable" as that indicates, to me, 75-80% likely. I'd say more likely than not, but will be sweating it out.

4 - Are we somewhat of a lock to be a regional host already, despite the OU series and SEC tourney?

Not after this weekend. We were a lock, but losing that series did a lot of damage. Oddly enough If the season ended today, I'd say we would have gotten a host. Unfortunately we have to play the best team in the country this weekend and with the way we're playing right now, a sweep is on the table.

Fair insight ...

I'm hoping we're able to get at least one this weekend, and make it to at least the semis in the SEC tourney, and that that should get us a 14-16 seed.

Yes we are a lock to host. We have series wins at LSU, Georgia, and MSU and have a better conference record than all three even if swept by OU. Are your hosts Stanford, Arizona, and Virginia Tech. You have to be reaching pretty far down the RPI list. We will be and should be the seventh SEC host in the pecking order at the lowest.
