Blinn Baseball lands seven on first-team All-South list

Take this with a grain of salt as always, but here are some dudes from down the road. Posted here because it includes an A&M Commit and a former signee

Ben Polleschultz LHP - Soph (A&M Commit)
2025: 3.02 ERA, 8-1 record, 16 app, 5 Starts, 2 CG!, 56.2 IP, 16 BB, 67 SO, .199 Opp avg
2026: 4.91 ERA, 3-0 record, 9 app, 4 Starts, 29.1 IP, 15 BB, 38 SO, .269 Opp avg
  • I believe Brauny said he is committed to join A&M after this season when he outlined the signing class in the Fall.
  • I'm just stat cruising right now so I don't have the full picture. He hasn't pitched as much this season. Looks like he got beat up early season, was used out of the pen and then back to starting (and his best 2 outings) the last 2 games.
Dylan Thompson RHP - Soph
2026: 2.42 ERA, 6-0 record, 10 app, 7 Starts, 2 CG!, 44.2 IP, 15 BB, 45 SO, 0 HR allowed, .182 Opp avg
  • Was at LSU as an IF/RHP and faced 2 batters in the 2025 season before transferring to Blinn.
  • I think he is draft eligible and I could not find anything about him committed to a school after this season. I'm sure the staff knows about him
Marc Barnhard RHP - Redshirt FR
2026: 3.91 ERA, 11 app, 1 SV, 23 IP, 15 BB, 39 SO, .165 Opp avg
  • '24 A&M signee, I believe he went through fall camp and did not make the spring roster.
  • uncommitted
Hudson Melaerts RHP - Soph (OU Commit)
2026: 2.33 ERA, 15 app, 8 Saves, 19.1 IP, 19 BB, 38 SO, .130 Opp avg
  • Only allowed 5 earned runs over 19 innings of work.
Drew Britton 1B - Soph (FAU Commit)
2026: .328 avg, .476 OBP, .525 SLG, 12 2B, 7 HR, 52 RBI, 45 BB, 24 SO
  • '24 Baylor signee
Hunter Smolinski MIF - Soph
2026: .380 avg, .475 OBP, .614 SLG, 10 2B, 11 HR, 39 RBI, 28 BB, 36 SO
  • Started at GCU, uncommitted
Zachary Tuxhorn C - Fr
2026: .430 avg, .562 OBP, .709 SLG, 13 2B, 11 HR, 53 RBI, 37 BB, 25 SO
  • One to keep an eye on, 1.271 OPS as a freshman is impressive no matter the level
  • Went straight to Blinn, uncommitted.
  • Actively posting clips on twitter, I'm assuming for recruiting

I wonder how his defense is? His hitting metrics would be a nice plug in after Bear signs in the draft.

Difficult for me to say without watching him play. I don't have much confidence that the fielding stats are all complete on Blinn's website. It shows only 1 stolen base allowed, 0 caught stealing, 0 passed balls which I find hard to believe over 52 games.

Juco baseball at the NJCAA D1 level at programs like Blinn is legit. Lots of DUDES playing at those programs.

Especially these days with the transfer portal there are tons of kids who would have signed to big-time P4 programs that end up going juco.

Tons of elite baseball played at places like Blinn, San Jac, McClennan, Alvin, Wharton, Angelina, Weatherford, and so on. I've been told that San Jac alone has like 10 guys on their pitching staff sitting 94+

My nephew is committed to MCC. He's not touching 94, but I do hope he ends up in Aggieland.

I don't know if they're legit people, but I've seen a number of baseball guys online telling recruits that with the portal they're better off going to juco than being on the bench at a d1 school. Getting constant live ABs being better than only getting cage work. It seems to make sense. Like minors for D1…

Brenham is super nice
The players live in a brand new dorm and basically have an entire hallway where it just people on the team
Really an awesome environment for a Fr or So

All the D1 programs have shifted; they will basically tell you that if you don't fit the very specific criteria they are looking for, you need to go Juco. With fewer roster spots and no(fewer) walk-on spots, they aren't taking as many projects. They will tell you to go to JUCO, spend your days eating, lifting, playing, and going to class, generally in that order, then call them in a year.

Definitely the case from a lot of folks I know and respect. Juco doesn't have the same restrictions on practice time or games/scrimmages, especially in the fall. So a kid can go juco and get 100+ ABs in the fall vs. outstanding arms and then another 200-300 in the spring.

Same thing for pitchers- more innings vs. better bats than you get in HS and live work instead of just bullpens at a D1 program.

I'm acquainted with one of MCC's top arms that will be at DBU next year. His dad is the majority owner of the D-Bat up the road and recommended his son's pitching coach that mine has been going to for a couple years now.

And recall that former A&M pitcher, Tyler Ivey, got sideways with Childress transferred to Greyson College and was a 3rd round pick by the Astros several years ago. Had a brief stint in the majors and some injury issues but is back pitching in the Mexican league now. Ivey's younger brother, Jake, is a stud LHP in the 2027 class committed to Arky. I used to work with their dad and remember Tyler when he was like 9-10 years old.
