Auburn run rules State and wins the series

at 16-11 in the league now...feels like Auburn has secured a top 8 seed

their series wins resume is outstanding: Nebraska, A&M, Florida, Arkansas, OU, and State

Dropped 2 out 3rd strike. Runner goes to 2nd on bad throw. Next Vol batter with a 2 run dinger and big ol' bat flip.
6-3 Vols.

And the pitcher was walking off the field prior to the throwing error.

Vandy just tied Mizzou. It's 8-8 in the top of the 8th.

UGa about to clinch the regular season title. Up 12-3 on LSU after 7.

Uga is the only SEC team able to avoid bad weekends.

A&M shows how avoiding sweeps and sweeping when presented are big for your overall W-L in conference.

for the next 2007 vs. 2026 comparison...

Childress' second-year squad played a 56-game regular season. And with 6 games to go...

the '07 club was 39-11 with 12-9 conference mark...with aspirations for a national seed

Earley's second-year team is playing a 52-game regular season. And with 6 games to go...

sits at 36-10 with 15-8 conference mark...and in a better position for a top 8 seed than the 2007 team was

however the 2026 club needs to keep winning -- something the 2007 team was unable to do at the end of the regular season

well...those who forget the past are...something like that

these last 2 weekends have been very Childress-era-esque

the national seed / top 8 seed is there for the taking, but the Ags are having trouble winning down the stretch

one more opportunity to lock it down next weekend

Alabama is quietly taking care of business at Carolina this weekend

conference record up to 15-11 with one more game in Columbia

then the Tide finish at home vs. Ole Miss

Bama is poised to take another top 8 seed for the SEC

on the positive side...Kansas lost its series at home to West Virginia

also lost their midweek game

that should table any talk of the BDF champ getting a top 8 seed

Arizona State is just bad. Maybe they have a chance tomorrow against Oklahoma State when it's 108 degrees.

I don't know if the RPI number will be enough to boost Bama into the top 8. Sweeping Florida and Auburn certainly looks good, until you stack it up against getting swept Kentucky on the road and Arkansas at home. To me, that looks like a team eminently capable of losing a home regional and giving someone an easy path to Omaha as a result. I think they belong in the 9-16 group (we will be right there with them if we don't take 2 of three from State).

I got curious this morning and looked at our record in our games decided by two or less runs. Our record is just okay (only 8-6).

In non-conference games, we're 3-1 (two one run wins against Penn, the midweek win over Tarleton State, and the midweek loss to Texas State).

In conference games, we're 5-5 (with two early losses to OU, the loss to Auburn, and this weekend's two losses to OM. In four of these conferences, we had 39 LOB.

We also had a two-run win again Mizzou (when we scored only 1 run after the 5th), a one-run win against tu, and a one-run win against Auburn (when we didn't score after the 6th).

In the Texas State loss, Texas State scored 3 in the 7th after we took the lead in the 6th. We didn't score after the 6th. We had one error.

In each of the two OU losses, OU scored the winning run in the 8th inning. In the first of those two, we didn't score after the 6th inning.

In the Auburn loss, Auburn scored early and often against Sims, and we scored only one run after the 4th inning. We also had two errors.

In the first OM loss, OM scored the tying and winning runs in the 7th inning, and we scored only one run after the 5th.

In the second loss, OM jumped all over Moss (who gave up 6 hits and 5 runs in 3 innings). OM scored the winning run in the 7th inning, and we didn't score after the 4th. And we had 2 errors.

The five conference losses are looking mighty big right now, and there seems to be a pattern to those losses. One, bats went stone cold. Two, we made costly miscues. And, three, the closer was unable to shut the other team down.

Just an observation. Thoughts?
