Personally, i like that Earley and Kelly are trying someone new.

Developing layers is true job. So…yeah…there should be visible effort to give playing time to up and comers as they build skills and confidence.

I looked back and if I read it correctly he hasn't given up a run in his last 6.1 innings

Plus he was basically exclusively a starter for Clemson last year

If we got even like 4 innings out of him I think that's a huge win

Just need someone who can give us a chance on Fridays

Why not? He's as good a choice as anybody else and definitely better than Sdao. Looking forward to seeing how he does in this role.

I like it. At this point we've got to see if something can give us a better start to the Friday game and we still need some innings, at least 4, which Darden probably gives us the best chance to effectively cover of the available alternatives.

The other big question, and this will be the chief challenge for Earley/Kelly, is how to get Sdao's mind set focused on his revised role. We're still going to need to cover Darden's relief innings. The opportunity for Sdao is obvious, go back to a shorter outing relief mind set where he can pitch at closer to a max effort level. This may give him a little more latitude for his strike zone command and it's ironic how pitchers often improve their command when they stop thinking as much and go at a higher effort level.

I think we are just trying to find a combo of 2 guys that can get you 6-7 innings

Darden with sdao out of pen
Darden/lyons bridge to Freshcorn
Darden and even moss taking the ball game 1 which then possibly allows letting sdao be TBD Sunday starter if you can get game 1 win etc

It's clear we don't have a Friday night ace or 3 capable starters who can all navigate 7 inning of quality start ball. With only 3ish reliable BP arms, we are forced to get creative. Moving forward I would imagine it's a lot of TBDs as we will be making moves heavily dependent on score and which game of the series we are in. When you basically only have 6 capable arms, the sequence and timing of when you use those bullets becomes vitally important. I think we are tinkering with that in preparation for post season

I liken this to tennis. Sometimes you just have to concede court 1 and win the rest of them. I think this shows we know exactly who we are and what we have.

I got it too. It's like the old lose the battle but win the war cliche. This will work up to game 1 of the regional, unless we draw a weak team, which I doubt at this point.

I was hoping back on April 10th when we moved Sims - that we would move Sdao. He was an excellent reliever in 2024, and I am sure he has the potential to step up when needed. I agree with trying Darden on Friday. Why not, we need to find something that works consistently.
