Article doesn't say if he's going to stay in to coach at Lamar until they're out. I don't know how he could, it seems like a conflict of interest.

This is terrible for them, what awful timing. We were pretty upset when we found out after the fact that Schloss was coaching for us but recruiting for t.u., though, so I don't know if this situation is better or worse.

Btw, article also says Jace Hutchins is also expected to go to UH.

at least Lamar has a winning record. Just read that Holy Cross got to the regionals by winning their conference, even tough they have a losing record for the year... guess who they get to play... the lucking fonghorns...

Beaumont is my hometown. Lamar baseball is the first college baseball I ever attended. Long before I'd ever heard of Olsen Field. I'd love to see Lamar in Omaha (if they weren't in our regional).

People need to get over the timing of coaching changes. There is no good time for it to happen, especially when your team makes it to the postseason. UH's season is over and they want their new coach to start working on making their program better right now while they can get a head start on other teams, not hard to comprehend the motivations here.

Transfer Portal opens Monday. That needs to be changed until after Omaha. It's a disadvantage future wise to make it further in the postseason for players and teams.

The only host in that mix, UCLA, was also the only one that retained much of their stars from the previous year and didn't need to hit the portal hard.

Sucks for Lamar in the Regional but this is a great hire for UH.

They won't have the NIL that SEC or ACC programs do but they have really strong facilities, even if they do play on carpet, and there's no reason they can't be a perennial contender to win the BigXII. They can build a wall around Houston and recruit the players not quite on the SEC level out of HS and develop a really strong program.

They got screwed in '83 by the umps in Austin.
Honestly, and in my opinion, leaving Lamar for Houston isn't a big move up. I know. I know, it's Houston and the Big 12. Weeeee….!

Completely agree! I know this really impacted our year pst CWS run, especially with a coaching change.

It was 1984. Billy Bates scored Texas' "winning" run and came back to Beaumont in 1986 playing for the AA El Paso Diablos. KFDM TV 6 had a story on him and the screwing in Austin, so I videotaped it. About 2003 I digitized that videotape, et voila:

Huge screw job! I remember listening on the radio in Beaumont and the announcers going nuts. (I met Lamar's catcher about 7 years ago; a fellow lawyer in Houston; still a sore subject.)

Even if called correctly, the Cards still would have had to find a way that game and one more against the sips to make it to Omaha.

Regardless, it remains one of the most egregious calls ever!!

The Lamar catcher was also a beer guy at the AA Golden Gator games during the 1985 season. He got some crazy good tips talking that play with the crowd. My father was one of the ones who talked/tipped.

The radio call was Dave Hoffreth on KLVI. I can remember being in the bathtub and listening to it on the radio. I was 12. The game was on ESPN, but we didn't have cable. Hoffreth was screaming and screaming about how crooked Austin was.

And yes, Lamar was in the loser's bracket, so they'd have had to have won the tie game and then the following game as well.
