ummm a few thoughts....

1. this guy dragged us when he was here AND when he left.
2. He could have had any head coach job he wanted.
3. Why would he come back here for 1 year unless he was made promises? earley has 1 year left on contract and i havent heard any talk of an extension.
4. Who coaches third?
5. What does Cain tell recruits after the last 3 years of going back and forth? "Yeah I said this but i didnt mean it. its all good now" . sweet credibility and way to build relationships. Speaking of Recruiting... does anyone remember burner phones and recruiting for Texas while at A&M? Raise your hand.
6. How well are we going to do recruiting, with a coach with 1 year left on contract?
7. There are only 3 scenario's here.
A. He reached out because unhappy at Texas. - no chance in hell because he would just take the UH job.
B. Trev hired him a long time ago in anticipation of Earley having a bad year. - So; 12 months from now we look dumb for not keeping Earley if he has a good year. or we look dumb for not getting rid of him fast enough. This screams we have no faith in Mike. So then the talk will be why didnt we get rid of him earlier (when we hired nolan cain)?
C. Earley is about to take another job. Probably a AAA hitting coach or an illinois/indiana school (i forget where he is from) that gives him more stability while his kids grow up. The uncertainty about leaving after next year vs him choosing where to go now is probably easier to manage. Recruiting will be tough and how motivated would you be knowing there is no confidence in you from your admin.

IMO...C is the only answer that makes sense. Cain should not be coaching under Earley. He knows it and Earley knows it. Schloss said it many times. "Cain will be an SEC head coach soon and he isnt going to take any job."

Good luck Coach Earley!!

Somebody go check this dude's fridge for severed heads. And explosives in his shop.

Hey friend, if you feel like spilling some tea, please text me. Entertainment is always appreciated especially at the expense of POS.

In an ideal world probably so, but *****ing by your wagon to an unproven HC instead of someone like Schloss would be unnecessarily risky at that point in time. Especially with the contract he got.

Ecstatic that 2 years later Earley has the stature to make Cain feel comfortable enough to come back.

How anyone can view this as a negative is wild.

We caught all of them completely off guard and took their top assistant. Schloss didn't know, the team didn't know, nobody knew until everyone knew. Give Earley some credit here.

Year 3 staff vs Year 1 staff. Bruh, this staff is salty now.

We can't start another inning after 12:30. We're going to be resuming this game tomorrow.

It wouldn't take many tonight. Just got home and I have to be up early to bake, run deliveries, and be back at the ballpark tomorrow afternoon

This makes total sense. Schloss probably knew this and he did not want this to happen so that's probably why they pushed for media posts saying he should be a head coach.

For those not paying attention, Schloss's coaches and players don't like him.

First, Earely has a four year contract so two years left.

As for your C scenario, if the administration knows Earely is planning on leaving, why not let him?

Some of us remember what Cain did with Schloss when we were one win from a natty. Hard to just shrug that off

Schloss. He is a hard guy to play and coach for.

Cain is a mercenary from what I can tell, but the A&M players that know him seem excited he is coming back and he and Earley must have a good relationship so I am for it. Feels like this is probably his last stop before getting a head coaching gig in another year or two.

Maybe he is now. Cain was when the staff was formed. Tulo wasn't even offered a job until Earley bailed.

For anyone who thinks Earley is on the hot seat going into next year, I think this move would say differently. No way Cain comes here right now unless he is confident Earley has strong support from the AD. We may not have a top 10 team next season, but I feel really good about the future of Aggie Baseball with the staff Earley has put together. Now how long can he hold it together? I would think Pennington, Cain and Enright are all multi year guys. Cain just turned down big 12 head coaching jobs this off season. Pennington isn't leaving his alma mater for a mid major job and Enright is in year 1. We might be able to hold this elite staff together for several seasons.

Sorry if I missed it, but who is Cain replacing on our current staff?
