Are there any restrictions if you've visited Africa or South America in the past year?

Short answer: Yes.

Long Answer: Yes and........... It will depend on where you went, how long you stayed in particular places, how you traveled there ( Boat/Plane/Car) the places you stopped at while in travelling, how long you stopped at those places. etc. etc. etc.

It is based on malaria zones as established by the CDC and is broken down by the country and sometimes the cities within a country. If you wanna list them, I can cross reference each of them for you.

More than likely, most places are a 12 month deferral but hard to say just off of continents.

Ivory Coast for a week. Traveled by car within the country.

Thanks.

Ivory Coast is a malaria risk for all areas of the country. It is a 12 month deferral form the date you got home.

Damn. But thanks for the info and for everything you're doing!
Looks like with the new regulations it might be a 3 month deferral. Give us time to update our system and then give it a shot.

Lots of good news on our end.

The local and national blood supply while still precarious has actually leveled off. Most blood banks are at or close to optimal levels, now the hard part begins- being able to restock or maintain inventory as we progress into stricter stay at home policies.

Thankfully, local and state health officials have been encouraging the public to come donate.

Thank you to everyone who helped us and who donated for the first time.

On the plasma front, we are running full steam. We have our teams ready to go, we just need eligible recovered donors to sign up either with us or through their docs.

We have updated a page to help recovered patients sign up to be donors.

https://www.carterbloodcare.org/like-become-covid-19-convalescent-plasma-donor/

Anyone that is eligible in north/central or East Texas. Please sign up, we the process only takes about 1 hr and we can collect up to 4 units of plasma from each donor. Each 1 of those units can go to a different patient.

We are actually exploring a "concierge" type blood drive. Where we call several donors in an area and drive tot heir neighborhood.

Hurdles are :
1)we have to have restroom access. Do people want us going into their homes?
2) we must have a level surface in order for our scales to work and QC.
3) liability issues of parking a fulls size coach on a neighbor hood block. Traffic should be limited but does it expose us to risk if someone hits us?
4) every time we move the coach, we have to re QC our scales. This takes time and creates a cost efficienciy issue.

If the brains at TEXAGS can help me figure it out, I'll implement it next week. I have staff/vehicles and resources ready to roll!
For South Texas Blood and Tissue, why don't they come down to Atascosa County and other outlying counties where there are relatively few cases (If you believe the testing). We have the river park etc that could allow for distancing and ease of traffic. You would have to advertise it though. I would donate and so would my wife. You could possibly spread the word through the ISD to the teachers who are all at home. I think you would get the bang for the buck in deploying the vampire bus.

Will do. I can probably handle the notifications through the ISD's with my wife.
