I am a pulmonologist. Agree I think this is due to smoking. COPD pts seem to be getting hit hard by COVID. Decreased local IgA and decreased cilia on respiratory epithelial cells. Not to mention poor baseline lung function and more profound hypoxia/hypercapnea with lung injury.

What does the French shutdown entail?
The measure applies to restaurants, cafes, cinemas and nightclubs as well as non-essential businesses.
It would not, Mr Philippe said, affect essential businesses which he listed as food shops, chemists, banks, tobacco shops and petrol stations.
