from Heathrow to JFK. They'll spend Satuday night at the airport hotel and continue to Austin Tomorrow.

It's 7PM on Saturday, and Here are my questions:

1. With Trump's announcement today, is the UK a CDC Level 3 country as of now? (CDC site does not appear to have updated since the 11th, so I'm not sure if I should trust the current map.)
2. Will my daughter fall under the 14 day isolation rule that TAMU has instituted for Level 3 countries? Plus, should she notify TAMU as soon as she lands?
3. If the above answers are yes, are my son and I also screwed for the next 14 days under CDC guidelines?

Interpretations would be appreciated. I'm wondering if I need to sneak into the office tomorrow before they land and grab a ****-ton of paperwork to try to work from home.

I know. That's a big concern right now. I'll rest easier when they land at Bergstrom.

NPR was saying they would be screened at selected airports then sent home for self quarantine

My wife and I are flying from Heathrow to DFW on Monday. I'd be interested to know how your wife and daughter do making it back home. How full are the flights, how was the screening, etc.

Also, for what it's worth, I know a guy with the DFW Fire Department and he said the screening is "What countries have you visited, do you have any symptoms" and a temperature check.

Just got a text from Delta that the plane has landed. Haven't spoken with my wife yet, but I'll provide an update later tonight when I get a chance to talk to her. I'm curious to see what guidance they have from the airport staff.

My parents flew in from London to Houston on Friday, landing at 3:45. There was no health screening.

Where they perhaps screened before boarding on the other end?

Nope.

They flew from India to London, then from London to Houston. No health screening.

During their train tour in India they were asked how they felt at one stop, and asked to wear masks at another.

Someone mentioned it above, but to elaborate just a bit. TAMU has canceled classes through the end of this upcoming week and from then on will be online. So, no I don't think she needs to notify anyone at TAMU. Most of the quarantine guidelines are for people showing symptoms(could be mistaken) or have been in close contact with someone that has tested positive.

So who do you register that with?

If there are no classes and/or school related activities what is the point?

Also, only additional screening was a questionnaire filled out on the plane. No extra screening in immigration or customs.

Idk only that Aggies have been asked to register their travel. Not as important now that they are online, but dorms are open as is campus, and a lot are planning to return to CS.

Update: 10:20pm

Just got off the phone with the wife. An hour into the flight the attendant came on and said that CDC would be boarding the plane once it landed, so everyone should remain seated until CDC did their thing. They said they didn't know and weren't told what the protocol would be.

Upon landing, the plane taxied to the gate, and everyone waited for about 10 minutes. Then, the captain announced that CDC was NOT going to be coming, so everyone was able to exit the aircraft.

No issues getting bags, no testing, nor temperature taking. Huge mass of humanity in customs. Americans, Asians, Europeans, and Middle Easterners were all in a big mob waiting for customs. She said nothing like Bush Intercontinental, which is somewhat orderly.

Once they got to the customs official, everyone was being ushered through with minimal questions. And this is what kind of pissed her off. They had a family with a kid in front of them who was noticeably sick - coughing & sneezing, flushed face, and red puffy eyes. He was wearing a mask. The customs agent asked the parents if he was sick, and they said no, he was just having problems with the mask. With no additional questions, they let them through. Her feeling is that we're letting the virus in pretty much unabated at this point.

She's asked me to have my son follow me in another car to the airport tomorrow, so I can leave the car in short term parking so we don't have to be in the car and nearer than 6'. Translation - I'm staying in the guest room and getting bupkis the next couple of weeks.

The scenes at DFW and OHare Saturday evening are scary.
Wouldn't be surprised to see shutdowns across major US cities.

Reading comprehension guys...he said his family was staying in NY for a night then flying to TX. The article posted clearly stated it was a BA flight from LHR into AUS.

We had a similar experience at MIA coming in on Friday afternoon. Global Entry fingerprint scanners were shut off, and they were asking additional questions at the gate agent....which had the beautiful byproduct of producing massive lines in which everyone was tightly squeezed together.

Good thought, bad execution.

This certainly can't be surprising to anyone. When a travel ban it enacted without a plan in place I just feel bad for the airport workers.

The no screening in New York is very concerning. But have heard that at a few airports. CDC needs to get their act together.

There's simply no way to prepare for that mass of people all coming into a handful of airports with a shortage of tests and delayed results.

The comments made publicly were made to assuage the fears of Americans, but they knew they weren't realistic.

Final update:

They are home. Left JFK late this morning and came to Austin on a thinly populated plane (30 people on an Airbus A320) . Conversely, the trip from London to JFK was totally full.

More surprises at JFK this morning: TSA was basically business as usual - people putting keys and coins in the small bins, unpacking bags for the inspectors, etc. Wife was thinking that TSA was changing protocol to account for Coronavirus, but found that was not the case. No temperature checks, no questions about how they were feeling.

She and my daughter both feel fine, but she thinks the probability of them coming down with it after the amount of exposure over the last 2 days is very high.

Her final thoughts: What we're being told on the news about medical checks, and what is actually happening at the airports is NOT the same. Get Ready.

(Edit: Emoji is for the fact that they're home - should be followed by angry emoji, then radioactive one)
