My HEB checkout person this morning told me that her husband is a cashier at the local Costco. Costco is having a special 2 hour closed shopping session for people that work in retail, so that they can get some groceries. She also said HEB, as a company, has been wonderful to work in during this crazy time.
I believe HEB just gave all employees a $2/hour raise for the time being for their efforts
Dropping hours open to only 8-8 is probably helping too. Everyone I saw was very friendly and helpful, but some did look tired.

Bored at home and want to spread some cheer? Put up your Christmas lights!

Thanks for this thread. I live out in the country and leave(and turn on) most of my Christmas lights daily. I did put out my big lit up Aggie gig 'EM thumb and my wife got a bunch of fresh limes and is making a batch of her famous margaritas,

Steaks last night, shrimp creole tonight.

And we are doing everything we can to keep our employees going.

We've Never been licked.

And I will get worried when the lawyer tv ads stop. That will truly mean the end of the world is near.

God has got this.

My company (large multiline insurer) emailed us letting us know that we're well capitalized and have no immediate/forseeable liquidity concerns. They then told us we're all getting $500 before our next paycheck to assist with any expenses, particularly due to needing equipment to work from home more comfortably/efficiently.

I'll already had a good work from home setup, so I'm gonna use mine to support nearby restaurants I like a couple times a week and try to grab a meal for anyone homeless I see on the way there.

There are a few indie authors out there who are making their stuff free for a while to help combat the tedium. Mostly niche writers but still.

We need to worry about health, vocation, finances, etc of course. But simple entertainment is also extremely important in these times. Good bull.

I do. What area do they work in? I'm in actuarial/finance. Who knows how long we can weather this, but I like to think we at least learned something from 2008. Our stock is down like 60% this month, but so are all our competitors.

Whoever wrote the story wasn't aware that the "dollar" sign is also the "peso" sign. I agree, it would have been steep to "pay 20 bucks" for some Cheetos. It's not so bad to pay 20 pesos for a small bag.

Everyone needs to find a small business that they frequent and support them during this period. In Oklahoma takeout is still ok. Go buy something. Not a chain, a local business. You don't have to do something great. Just do your part where you still can. Some areas are in total lockdown but not everywhere.

Then do your part it distancing. Spend money and distance if you have money to spend. Very simple process. If your area gets shut down then you did your best before you could no longer do it.

I'm old but not so old I can't support my favorite places. Spend what you would normally spend and TIP WELL! Not 15%, more like 30-40%. The people you tip desperately need it. Don't be a cheap a$$. Do your part.

I organized a donation of my school district high school Health Science program's PPE to a hospital. It wasn't a huge amount, but it was over 100 N95s and some gowns, etc.
