This is absolutely the best news I've heard in a while. These researchers have found no reinfection in monkeys after being infected.

This means a vaccine is actually possible. SARS was thought to trigger what's called antibody-dependent enhancement, meaning it uses your own immune system to replicate, much like HIV. That would make a vaccine impossible.

Hopefully we'll get herd immunity in a few weeks, maybe a month, the weather drives the final nail, and before next flu season, we'll get a better sense of where we are for a vaccine.

The only downside is that coronaviruses aren't that stable, so we'll have to get a covid-19 vaccine along with a flu vaccine every year.

I thought it was already discussed in the medical community that you can get COVID-19 multiple times?

The percentage of cases was about 1%. The current thought now is that it's a testing problem because the tests aren't very sensitive, so lots of false negatives.

In other words, people aren't really "cured" yet and the virus is still in their system.

I still want to see a study of SARS-CoV-2 vaccine that doesn't cause severe injury upon challenge. Great that there can be natural immunity, but the papers posted yesterday about SARS and MERS vaccines still have me concerned.

I would not get too excited about monkey data. While it sometimes reflects the human experience, there are plenty of examples of where it doesn't.

I am excited about the monkey data. Anything that makes monkey Kung Flu different than the Monkey AIDS is good.

It's interesting that you can cross similar species and create offspring of a different species.
Tiger x Lion = Liger
Horse x Donkey = Mule
Etc., etc.

Yet it's not possible with humans and other primates.
You know what means don't you?

No condoms baby! Wooo!!!!

It was a missed opportunity, I fully agree.

Lung scarring, They need to test if monkeys lungs irreversibly scarred. We need to know what else not to get too excited about.

Very, very much true. Other things I was thinking not to get too excited about:

- Kate Upton never giving me the time of day.
- Probably never owning that $13 million yacht that I want.
- Will never see an A&M football natty.

Life just sucks.

It is encouraging but they were challenged less than a month after the original challenge...they ought to have immunity. Larger question is a challenge three or six months later (which we of course will have to wait on). Prior Coronavirus research suggests our titer of protective antibodies decreases significantly after two months post infection. I'd like to see that data.
