Ever been through a hurricane?

Believe me....when push comes to shove....(what you are going through isn't push coming to shove). .it's every man for himself.

And you will want that ammo. Promise.

I've been through a hurricane(ike) and two really bad tropical storms(harvey and imelda) and never felt threatened by other people. I have my ltc and carry often, but not worried anymore than usual.

Bango, I think many people preparing to defend their turf also likely have enough to help others but that isn't their mentality.

You are right, I am fortunate and live in an area where I am unlikely to be physically threatened and that allows me to focus on finding ways to help others not so fortunate. I've be through hardship and come out the other side. I am not rich, have earned everything I have truly on my own and am willing to help anyone as I am able.

My only defense is my two doodles who are willing to lick and wag anyone invading my home front to death. Different strokes for different folks.
This is a common stereotype that I completely disagree with. I would gladly give you a pistol if you needed it, and I don't even know you, as long as you and I had a common goal(which I am sure we do). Just like I would gladly help a neighbor who may be out of toilet paper, or shop for my elderly next door neighbor who lost her husband March 2 to agent orange poisoning.

Don't mistake preparedness and a desire to defend ourselves with a complete disregard for others. That couldnt be further from the truth.
I don't but just as I don't understand needing an enormous amount of tp, I don't understand stocking up on ammo because we are in a pandemic situation. This is a battle against a virus and if all you want to do is be prepared in case someone is robbing your home, I suspect you have that on hand. By the way, just because I don't own weapons doesn't mean I don't respect your right to.

You bet. I understand and appreciate that and did not mean to give that impression.

And I agree with you to a certain extent. Some of the buying of all kinds of things seams quite excessive to me too, including TP and ammo.

But you said 'all you want to do is be prepared in case someone is robbing your home.' That's not the case. It is just one of many different steps of preparation.

With all that said, I think another way to look at the ammo purchases is fear of long term availability, whether it be from laws, scarcity, etc. After the terrible Sandy Hook tragedy it was quite literally years before common types of ammo were readily available for purchase, especially at an affordable price. People were unprepared for that and there was a very public push to restrict or even outright ban ownership. So people are also preparing for that, especially as the odds of a Trump re election fall from +190 to Even money.

But understand, and I think you do, people are not buying this ammo to put in their guns. Their guns are already loaded. So it's not really being bought to protect from bad guys.

I don’t say this in a braggedocious way. But it’s true. I’ve been right about everything.

I was in Katy. House never even lost power, but I did subject myself and family to the horror of a 6-hr drive inland that really should have only taken 1.5. Learned my lesson and never felt the need to evacuate again, particularly living as far inland as katy.

Folks stock up on ammo for various reasons.

Don't worry plenty of the good stuff still available.

It's the cheap steel case budget 5 moa stuff that gets bought up.

My son works at Academy in College Station, and said the place was pretty packed this evening... and the Ammunition section looked just like the toilet paper section at HEB.
What will ammunition do to fight a virus? People going to charge the hospital and demand a ventilator?

If we go on shelter in place, after the drug addicts loot the Walgreens/cvs, some people would rather not have them show up at their home. There are people in this world whose "job" is to burglarize while everyone is away at work. They are not going to stop "working" because people are now at home during the day.

Police are being instructed to ignore 'minor' crime, including theft of person and burglary. Announced publicly. Criminals aren't the brightest bulbs in the best of times.

And if the behavior of people in stores hasn't given you pause re: the contagion of panic, well I don't know what will.

I live in the Bay Area. We are on shelter in place. Not sure what your community is like but rather then being fearful or out for ourselves, my community is drawing together reaching out to neighbors to pick up what they need at grocery store if someone needs to go to reduce others trips out etc. I believe my community will come out more close knit rather then having to arm ourselves against anything.

Also, not sure where police have been told not to respond to minor things, there is nothing like that happening here.

I guess I'd rather see the good in people and what we can do for each other then plan to defend what's mine. I suspect when this passes we will each be alive and come out of this period of time with entirely different experiences, those we are looking for.

You live in San Francisco. The police there haven't been arresting for minor and major crimes for years.

What's really cool is my drug dealer is willing to do porch pickup/drop off. Really takes a load off my mind. She's requested I put the money in a plastic bag, which isn't unreasonable.

Has anyone adjusted their retail shopping habits?

I have a fitting for some golf clubs scheduled in the Houston area on Thursday afternoon. Definitely don't need to go but would like to get a set of clubs to use as a socially distant sport.

I'm debating whether or not I should still go. I'm reasonably healthy and 31. I'll probably be working from home the next few weeks so won't have much chance of infecting older individuals.

Stop looking for validation for your life choices. Use your brain. Make a decision. Live with it. Be a man. Or a woman. Just be an adult for Christ's sake.
