Bango, I think many people preparing to defend their turf also likely have enough to help others but that isn't their mentality.
You are right, I am fortunate and live in an area where I am unlikely to be physically threatened and that allows me to focus on finding ways to help others not so fortunate. I've be through hardship and come out the other side. I am not rich, have earned everything I have truly on my own and am willing to help anyone as I am able.
My only defense is my two doodles who are willing to lick and wag anyone invading my home front to death. Different strokes for different folks.
This is a common stereotype that I completely disagree with. I would gladly give you a pistol if you needed it, and I don't even know you, as long as you and I had a common goal(which I am sure we do). Just like I would gladly help a neighbor who may be out of toilet paper, or shop for my elderly next door neighbor who lost her husband March 2 to agent orange poisoning.
Don't mistake preparedness and a desire to defend ourselves with a complete disregard for others. That couldnt be further from the truth.
I don't but just as I don't understand needing an enormous amount of tp, I don't understand stocking up on ammo because we are in a pandemic situation. This is a battle against a virus and if all you want to do is be prepared in case someone is robbing your home, I suspect you have that on hand. By the way, just because I don't own weapons doesn't mean I don't respect your right to.
You bet. I understand and appreciate that and did not mean to give that impression.
And I agree with you to a certain extent. Some of the buying of all kinds of things seams quite excessive to me too, including TP and ammo.
But you said '
all you want to do is be prepared in case someone is robbing your home.' That's not the case. It is just one of many different steps of preparation.
With all that said, I think another way to look at the ammo purchases is fear of long term availability, whether it be from laws, scarcity, etc. After the terrible Sandy Hook tragedy it was quite literally years before common types of ammo were readily available for purchase, especially at an affordable price. People were unprepared for that and there was a very public push to restrict or even outright ban ownership. So people are also preparing for that, especially as the odds of a Trump re election fall from +190 to Even money.
But understand, and I think you do, people are not buying this ammo to put in their guns. Their guns are already loaded. So it's not really being bought to protect from bad guys.
I don’t say this in a braggedocious way. But it’s true. I’ve been right about everything.
