Interesting info is that in the 30-39 year old cohort, while CFR was .2%, they were all male (4 out of 1676) none of the 794 females died.

The '03/'04 outbreak strain also showed a significant male bias for number of infections and symptom severity. I don't think we know exactly why, but it's likely multiple things.

Might have a lot to do with the "I'm fine. I don't need a stupid doctor" mentality of most men. I know I'm guilty.

Certainly could be a part of it. I'd be guilty as well, and I'm a virologist...

The same bias shows up in animal experiments too. Meaning there's also a significant component to the sex bias that isn't explained by human behavior.

Males are also typically unhealthier. Women live longer on average and way more males smoke.

I've heard something about ace2 and men have more? Also think there may be genetic/ethnic reasons

It's Mother Nature at work to keep the species alive. Natural birth rates are skewed towards males (not taking into account cultural "interventions "). Somewhere around 52-56% male, 44-48% female. Women traditionally not only had to run the gauntlet of diseases but also childbirth which would initially make you think that Mother Nature has it backwards. However, men have a natural propensity to do stupid things and wage war, which historically has brought the number of males below that of females.

But it goes further than that. The reproductive capacity of our species is almost entirely female driven. So as long as there are willing females and a few men willing "to service" them mankind will go on. The other way around and we would likely go extinct. (Think of the cattle rancher having 1 bull to service his 15-20 cows).

So once Mother Nature figured out that men will breed just about anything, there was no need to coddle us. Thus why we have , a brain that makes us do stupid ****, propensity to beat the **** out of each other and a less robust immune system than women.

475 over the last 24 hours. Wow. I wonder how far they are from the top of their curve.

The death rate among men in China was also worse, but they attributed it to 95% of men smoking and less than 10% of women.

Pretty sure it's only 52% of Chinese men, and less than 2% of Chinese women. I agree with your point that smoking matters a lot though.

My numbers could be off by a couple of factors. I just remember that men dramatically smoked more than women.
