Any other healthcare workers lamenting the loss of their facial hair as a side effect of Covid-19. I mean I knew I was fat and old, but... not this fat and old.

I heard about this anti-beard propaganda via wife via her facebook but my half-ass attempt to find anything about it failed.

Real for the common man or just healthcare workers who probably shouldn't have beards to begin with?

From an infection control standpoint, beards are bad. They catch more bacteria and viral particles and hold them in a relatively moist environment where they survive better for longer.

However, the big issue for those in healthcare is they don't allow for a proper seal with a face mask.

My husband has had a beard since our daughter was two and she turns 30 in July. There is no way he's going beardless. We're just self isolating here on the farm, I kind of like it.

Had to do the same thing at the PD. Beard gone, so that I can wear an N95 mask..... if I ever get one....

Yep, I at least kept that and the side-chops for now. That way when we ever get our beards back, I don't have as far to go.

Working in a clinic currently performing testing - had to shave 5 yr old beard that my kids have never seen me w/o in case n95 is needed

Same for me... I had them in the room with me when I did it so the baby would recognize me and the others wouldn't get too upset.

Seems inevitable. We know his defense against it would be somewhere between disinterested and nonexistent, and his beard could probably harbor the virus for days if not weeks.

If you want an N95 mask to work you need a fit test and to be clean shaven.

I've failed every fit test I've ever had. Concerned due to lack of alternatives and the number of people needing the alternatives that I may end up wearing the N95 anyway.
