Texas Children's - New Visitation Policy

Due to COVID-19 concerns, Texas Children's Hospital will only allow one visitor for the duration of the child's stay. At least this is what we were told today.

My wife and I have been switching off every other day for the last 3 weeks. Our daughter will continue to be in the hospital for 3-4 more weeks and we must decide which parent gets to see our daughter until she is discharged.

Curious if any other hospitals in Houston or the state have discussed a similar policy.

I know it sucks but it is actually the best policy for your daughter and all of the other (sick) youngsters.

It's the same for pregnant women in Austin. Some are grumbling because their doulas aren't allowed. Some hospitals say if the support person leaves, they aren't allowed back in.

I get what they are trying to do. But it's makes very little sense when my wife can come home and be around me and the other kids before she goes back. It's not like she's quarantined.

She should be, and so should you, if you are going into TCH.

Remember, social distancing is not necessarily about YOU getting sick. It's about not becoming a Typhoid Mary and spreading disease.

Right? Dude's daughter has some kind of medical issue requiring multiple week hospitalization and some anonymous bomb thrower show up and tells him to count his blessings. What world is this??

My brother may not be able to see the birth of his ****ing son due to this thing.

That's rough, I can't imagine being put in such a situation.

Prayers for your family, OP.

CUH in Dallas has the same policy and Parkland has banned all visitors of any age at any time, period.

Unfortunately these measures are absolutely necessary right now.

I don't disagree at all. But we're not which it makes it all pretty silly.

On a daily basis alone we see countless doctors, therapists, janitors, social workers, nurses, cafeteria ladies, security, parking people, etc never the same people.

Thanks for telling me about other hospitals. Good to know and I guess it could definitely be worse.

And people don't often realize it but there are kids at Parkland in the NICU and burn units.

It's sad but again, necessary

I hope your kiddo is well soon. Our 70 day stay at TCH was taxing but our girl survived so I'll take it

All hospitals are going to this policy. Only one visitor, aside from "end of life" situations and for minors.

Other than that no one allowed in, everything you are trying to bring a patient (food, gifts) must be dropped off outside.

This policy started here yesterday.

This is the same policy all 38 children's hospitals In the country have gone to, and it's actually to protect the front line healthcare providers more than it is about the patients.

Kids under 19 simply do not have a bad reaction to this virus, with almost no exceptions (including China and Italy)

But a great number of the doctors who treat kids for everything else are over the age of 65
